Hendrix has topped the chart in a poll at www.classicrockmagazine.com naming him 'wildest guitar hero'

01. Jimi Hendrix
02. Keith Richards
03. Stevie Ray Vaughan
04. Jimmy Page
05. "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott
06. Tony Iommi
07. Rory Gallagher
08. Eddie Van Halen
09. Chuck Berry
10. Kurt Cobain
11. Steve Clark
12. James Hetfield
13. Brian Jones
14. Jeff Beck
15. John Frusciante
16. Steve Jones
17. Johnny Thunders
18. Ted Nugent
19. Peter Green
20. Ace Frehley

Personaly im wondering what the hell Cobain is doing there and why no Randy Rhoads

I think it's as much to do with off-stage antics as well as on. In which case, Page and Richards should usurp Hendrix at the top.

Ive always been a Marty Freidman fan.....maybe not as wild in the sense of character, but he can shred! He should have been included. What the hell is Ted Nugent doing on there?!

When I saw the thread title the first name that came to me was Ted Nugent.
I don't think I've ever witnessed anybody more wild than him on stage.
The first time I saw him he swung in on a rope in a loincloth, stood on a bank of Marshalls and proceeded to feedback for five minutes.

There is only one and his name is TED NUGENT. Interesting that on the Classic Rock site that out of about twenty posts about seventeen of them are about Status Quo.

edit, just seen Panthros reply about Ted Nugent. He really is the epitomy of a 'the wildest guitar hero' so I'm confused why you think not. I'm sure the press labelled him the wild man of rock many decades ago.

I'd not heard much of Ted Nugent until I had the misfortune of seeing him live last year at a festival. The guy came accross as a arogant musician with medicore songs.

Saying that though, I can exactly see why he's in this pole.

I saw Randy Rhoads play live twice and he wasn't wild however Zakk Wylde could probably take the title off ted Nugent.

Perhaps my interpretation of 'wild' is different than what they asked for in Classic Rock.

Must be talking about general life - because SRV was hardly 'wild' on stage... but he was pretty hardcore off of it! (And then exactly the same could be said about Clapton, during the 70's in particular, although he's missing off the list). I reckon it must be a hardcore party drugs drink suicide survival type list!

These kind of polls are always a bit up the yin yang.

They actually voted Bon Scott the 'best frontman ever' a couple of years ago.
I saw Bon Scott perform live 3 times and he wasn't what you would call a 'great frontman' - he did what was needed.
