Yes.

Boot times would be faster, program loading times would be faster, rather than waiting, they become almost instantaneous.

Think of anything that uses the hard disk, and it'll take a lot less time.

Yes very instantaneous. To the point where it makes you laugh in amazement. Okay maybe I took it too far but no my one 60gb vertex smokes. I'm getting another on the 10th of next month for raid0.

As the others have said... Ooh Yeah! And if you're running MS's finest bloatware Vista it'll perform snappier than you've ever had it before!

SSD's are the future my friend. Get em while they're hot! :)

As operating systems and most common software is getting larger in filesize I would say wait until the price for a decent sized disk (100gb+) drops to something justifiable...

You wouldn't have bought a 16gb SATA HDD for XP for £150 would you? (considering space requirement for os and applications at the time of the disks release)

yeah but most people with these are not using them for file storage. Just OS and programs/games.

who knows how long you would have to wait for them to come down in price.

I agree. They are mature enough tech already to be viable from that point of view, and cost wise it is about the same to get either a single 120Gb or 2 x 60Gb or 3 x 30Gb and RAID them up. Despite my own 3 x 30Gb array I would personally say the sweet spot is 2 x 60Gb running in RAID 0 - reckon that gives the best speed, capacity, bang'4'buck atm.

And how often have we heard 'I'm just gonna wait till next week/month when they'll be cheaper' - some items are even going up in price atm. If you have the spare readies and you want them, get them!

I have just bought 2 for Raid0 , thanks guys for all comments. Whats the best way to flash them to newest firmware without an operating system as i am on my basic pc at the moment. My other pc which these drives are for is waiting bits that are due next week for a bit of an overhaul. I want them flashed all ready to just install and install my os.

Plug this in to your basic pc to flash it first. that is the best way. You will dl the new firmware, plug the jumper into the back of the vertex, and then flash it that way. It is the easiest.

I used a back up pc to flash mine.

Ok, thanks for that ninja. Do you flash it while your os is loaded up then and does it matter im gonna flash it running XP on this pc and Vista will be on new Pc? Thanks again. One more thing, do i plug it in and put jumper on before pc is fired up or connect it up once in the Os?

Well the PC being used to flash it will have to have a working OS on it. It does not matter if it is xp, and you are wanting to put Vista on your vertex. But you will plug the jumper on the vertex, and plug it into a empty sata port on your board (download the 1.1 Firmware first and plug all this in with the pc off). Boot your pc and go into your bios. find the option to change Sata to ide or legacy mode. Once you do this save your bios, exit and boot like normal. Once in your OS, click on your firmware download and click the start icon. It will do it's thing only if you have the jumper installed and have changed the sata to ide or legacy mode. it will then instruct you to remove the jumper, do so and let it finish. Reboot your pc and go back into your bios to put change you Sata settings back to normal.
Remove the vertex and put it in your new machine, you will need to boot from disk and align your drive before putting Vista OS on it. At this point it can be the only drive connected to you new machine and when you go to bios to tell it to boot from dvd, you should see it tell you it is vertex ver1.1. To align you will want to go to repair mode during the Vista install. OCZ forums will walk you through the alignment. Once aligned just install Vista as normal on the partition you just created, DO NOT erase or reformat the partition you made. After I did all that, I then installed my secondary HD which had all my stored files on and everthing has been fine ever since.

Thanks a lot for that ninja greatly appreciated. Just one thing as i didnt realise about this alignment thing, when you say partition does that mean i will then have 2 parts on my hard drive instead of just one whole 60gb drive? Thanks again i will look on ocz's forum now.

No it will be just one 60gb partition. When your drive comes in, bump this thread and I will help you with the alignment.
