hello, so new ssd and shuffling drives down the chain. so ill have a not used 60gb ssd, so id like te stick that in an old laptop, np. however id need a bit more storage on it so id like to pull out its never used optical drive and put in a caddy bay and put a hdd in there.

so, the issue is the optical drive is apparently 12.7mm high, so not paying close attention just ordered a caddy thats a 9.5mm high one. yes i know my own stupid fault. do i try and cancell the order or should it actually work fine? ive googled and people seem to indicate yes but not see anything thing id call definitive.

does anyone actually know if it will be compatible? also if it matters the hdd is a sata one and the optical/caddy is a pata/ide connector.

You'll probably find it rattles around due to the extra space if it does fit, and yes a IDE caddy will not fit a SATA SSD.

oh ive found a sata to pata caddy, they seem fairly common. i cant recall what but seemed to be common for a while on a few chipsets to attach hdd's by sata but optical by pata.

i did message the place to request cancelling the order, but a lack of response so it may come yet but so long as its connection points match up as you suggest then i could prob live with it. that laptop lives in the kitchen just for playing back podcasts so never moves.
