Will a SATA II drive work with a SATA I mobo.

Yes, as long as you are sure the drive is set to SATA1 speeds. I'm posting this on a rig with SATA1 on the mobo with a Seagate 7200.10 320 GiB disk.

Ok cheers, can this drive can be set to either speed?

I haven't read anything about that specific drive so I can only comment on the product line as a whole. I'm very impressed with my 7200.10. It's quiet and fast, everything I want out of a hard disk. Mine has a 16 MiB cache while that has half that. I reckon it won't make too much of a difference in the end.

TBH it is just for mums machine for office and Internet use so should not make that much of a difference, the machine has a fresh install of windows and is reallllllly slow. I think the old 20g 5200rpm maxtor ATA 100 is to blame, we shall see.
