Will AMD use 3D?

Looks like one or two people really trying to have an argument here :p

Try the already available software for what you have, and if it doesnt work out for you you can always sell up and reinvest in an nvidia solution :)

I agree with tommybhoy. The OP already has the hardware and they can trial the software to see if it works fine. It also means they can see if 3D gaming is worth the expenditure. Financially it makes the most sense.

See its all trial and error for me. All I have tried so far is a youtube video in 3d....without glasses I couldnt see for sure. I do love my 6950 and the vram is a bonus on skyrim (given the mods due I'll need vram) over say a 570/580. But everytime we go cinema (me and the gf) we always opt for 3D. Some films are better then others but it's do-able

Gaming is something else.

120hz was to stop tearing on games like BF3 when it got abit fast paced, the old screen was a cheap LCD with what seemed 8 colours...

Hardware is in place, but I dont wanna clog up my system with lame software.

Glasses seem essential but they are expensive even just to trial :(

A load of unnecessary rubbish...

Calm down dear, what's your problem :confused: I've already mentioned twice now that the OP should try out 3D to see if he likes it before splashing out money on the kit;

here

Be warned though 3D is not for everyone and I recommend you give it a go first before splashing a wad of cash on it!

and here

Like I said in my first post, see if you can give it a go first before spending a load of money on it just to make sure you like it.

I was merely trying to point out to the OP that if he did want to go down the 3D route then the best option at this precise moment in time is Nvidia and until AMD get their house in order ref 3D that's the way it will stay. Don't get having a go at me just because your beloved AMDs solution isn't up to par! Gaming in 3D requires good, frequent software updates and ideally a couple of high end cards to get the most out of it. Unfortunately as AMD uses a third party for its software then it's really out of their hands and as I mentioned before crossfire still isn't working properly.

BTW you seem to have conveniently missed out all the negatives I stated about AMDs 3D implementation and yet again concentrated on trying to bash Nvidia with comments like this:

Why didn't Nvidia simply update firmware on the glasses instead of bringing out mark 2 versions?

Because they simply want more of your cash perchance?

And what's this all about?

Still got your nickers in a twist from us having a difference of opinion in another thread, get over it already!

I've no idea what this thread was but it's obviously got you a bit wound up, perhaps you can refresh my memory? Oh and it's knickers not nickers :p

Get a grip wo/man

Haha love it, I really don't think it's me that needs to get a grip though is it ;)

120Hz is EPIC for first person shooters. BF3 @100+FPS @ 120Hz on my 27inch samsung is EPIC.

3D is good for certain games. Mainly RTS and RPG's. Sometimes it can be equally EPIC. Playing games in 3D is an experience you NEED to try.

I use TriDef 3D software which came with the screen. TriDef works better with ATI /AMD. Unfortunately the screen is not 3D Vision ready.:(

I have a 3D Vision hack, but i can't get it working. Boo.:(

Tri-def is a pretty decent alternative these days IIRC quite a big update recently for DX10/11 games... the rest that I've tried have been pretty meh.

But if you are seriously into 3D gaming, nVidia are far far more timely on updating to support for newer games, far more extensive testing/tweaking to get the best out of it and also have the clout and contacts to get games tweaked to support 3D better. (Off the top of my head AMD have only done this with Deus Ex 3 tho there may be 1-2 other games where they've been involved in 3D implementation).

This:
What can you possibly bring to the table in this thread other than pure speculation and a bit of a troll?

Don't get having a go at me just because your beloved AMDs solution isn't up to par!

Could not care less tbh, I don't/won't use it, it's not for me.

I have stated that I wasn't knocking Nvidia's implementation on 3D, simply stating the obvious to try it out for free as you did.

I imagine the iz3d software is cheaper to buy than buying Nvidias 3d glasses and compatible monitor(not knocking Nvidia's implementation of 3D gaming in any way!), plus you get a 30 day trial, so if it's not for you, then it won't cost anything.

I'm not saying Nvidia don't have the best support/implementation of 3D at all, they probably do

BTW you seem to have conveniently missed out all the negatives I stated about AMDs 3D implementation and yet again concentrated on trying to bash Nvidia with comments like this:

Both of my comments above show that there was no intention from me at all on bashing Nvidia.

The first bash at Nvidia I made in the thread was in reference to my comments that all they both want is our cash, which is reflected by Nvidia fleecing more cash from it's customers by releasing new glasses, nothing else!

BUSINESS REPORTED TO WANT OUR CASH: GET THE SCOOP INSIDE!

"Oh, and AMD doesn't want our cash. They like doing things for the greater good." And you call me a fanboi.

If I aimed it only at Nvidia then it would be fair to call me a fanboi!

But as I pointed out before, again and again, all they BOTH want is our cash, and as much of it as they can fleece out of us!

The point in that comment which you choose not to see is that they don't care for us, like some here care for them!

Next card I buy will be the best bang for buck at the price I'm prepared to pay!

I 100% don't care if it's red or green!

Every card I buy is the best bang for the buck. But the basic fact is that AMD is well behind on CUDA and 3D and until tehy step up their game I am willing to pay more even for NVIDIA.

The thing is you don't have to buy the new glasses if you've already got the original ones. It's just an updated design that's 20% bigger so it lets a little more light in. Even Nvidias new 3D lightboost technology works fine with the original glasses. Nvidia will not be stopping support for the original glasses and even the new IR emitter will work with either sets of glasses. Can I suggest that before you come steaming into a thread trying to throw your weight around like you've done with this one you actually do a bit of research on what's being discussed! You've already stated that you have no intention of using 3D so I'm really at a loss as to why you're trying to wind people up in this thread??

Oh and as xsistor alluded to neither AMD or Nvidia are charities, they're both after your money otherwise they wouldn't still be in business! Believe it or not most businesses like to make a profit ;)

He won't stand for it ... until they make the glasses 20% bigger and brighter with a firmware update...

@coupe, post 8, informative and to the point.
Post 17, you start on me for pointing the obvious out!

Have you two moved from the couch and into bed now, space for a third and we can have some real fun XXX?

Its gotta be said, if anything my thread has made me more confused with positive/negative comments regarding the same thing.

I think most agree its best to try out 3d on the hardware you have atm to see if you enjoy gaming on it. Watching 3d films is totally different to playing games so before splashing out give it a run and see what you think before wasting to much money. Either side will be fine for watching movies. If you enjoy 3d gaming then nvidia have the best solution at this current time.
