Hi all
Atm I have a predator 144hz Gsync monitor. With my preferred 3080 not expected to arrive until jan next year if big navi matches the specs of the 3080 does anyone have any experience running amd gpus on a gsync monitor??

Just wondered if there might be any issues at all like screen tearing say or any glitchs that could happen?

Do you mean a screen with a hardware Gsync module? If so, then most of them will not support VRR from an AMD graphics card. Some of the newer models like the LG 38GL950G and Asus 360Hz PG259QN will support VRR as NVIDIA updated the firmware on the module to allow it. It’s not clear if all future hardware Gsync screens will allow it.

if you mean screens though that are marketed as Gsync Compatible nowadays, those are just normal adaptive sync screens anyway, just with NVIDIA certification and testing and so can support FreeSync from AMD cards fine :) although VRR performance is often more patchy on adaptive sync screens abs can be a bit hit and miss. Definitely worth finding one with NVIDIA and/or AMD certifications

You can run a monitor/TV with a G-Sync module fine from an AMD GPU you just won't have G-Sync active (except in situations like Baddass mentioned) and no Freesync support. There shouldn't be any glitches, etc.

If it is G-Sync "compatible" without the module then you should be able to use Freesync with an AMD GPU.

Its the preadator x27 from 2 years ago I have so I am guessing it has the gsync hdr module.

Am I right in thinking gsync works at its best when fps is under 60?

If so and big navi is actually a competitior to the 3080 may be gsync won't matter .

Yeah that screen has a native Gsync module and won’t work with AMD FreeSync. VRR helps to handle varying refresh rates at all levels, but particularly if they fluctuate a lot and if they drop quite low. It’s definitely a useful feature to have especially when you consider the system drain of running 4K at up to 144Hz.

i think abs NVIDIA card would make a lot more sense to pair with that display. If you end up with something else I guess you could revert to using traditional vsync if you experienced any tearing, and live with the lag that might add. Or leave vsync off and put up with some tearing potentially
