Will i need thermal paste?

Hey guys will i need to appy thermal paste to my cpu?

I wont be overclocking, but i will probably try to unlock the 4th core. I will have the computer on problably at least 5 hours a day - up to 16 and i will be playing starcraft 2 on high/ultra settings.

yes of course. you need to apply it just before you put on the heatsink

even if your going to underclock you need thermal paste.

it's not a gimmick, it's a necessity.

Yea i was gona get it but i have been tod there will be paste on the heatsink already applied, but i have also heard that i will need it.

Edit: i guess what i mean to say is, ive been told there is paste already preapplied, im wondering weither or not that is true, and if it is will it suffice?

There's always paste pre applied to the cooler, if not then the cooler will supply paste with it. Would be strange if it didn't...

I assume you are using the cooler that comes with the CPU in which case it will already be applied so no don't buy any.

As its the retail boxed version the the paste will (or should) come pre applied.

If you're not overclocking it then just use the stock cooler with its pre-applied paste. It will work just fine.

The differences in thermal pastes and masses of personal preference issues generally only make a few degrees difference ever and then when the machine is under stress caused by overclocking so there's no real need for any aftermarket or specialist pastes at all, and even then they make very little difference in the scheme of things.
