Will i need to re-install Vista if i change my CPU?

Hi All,


As my title suggests.....

I currently have a mobo that will support 2 core or 4 core cpu's and i am thinking of upgrading my current e6400 to a e8... or a q6..., but will i need to re-install vista if i change it or is it just a swap cpu and away i go??


Current set up is .....

Asus P5KC Mobo
Intel core 2 duo E6400 which is OC to 3.25Ghz (8*406)
4gb of Geil Ram PC2-6400 (400Mhz)
Gigabyte 8800GT (512)
All in an Antec 900 with a Arctic Freezer pro 7 running Vista.

It should work, as long as the Motherboard is the same.

AFAIK, OEM versions of Operating Systems need new licenses when a new motherboard is used, but retail versions don't need the extra effort.
 
Actually it doesn't really matter if it was installed on a single core CPU.
On boot Windows will install the multi-core Kernel.

I remember when I first upgraded from a single core to a CPU with Hyperthreading.
First reboot - new hardware found, installing devices, second reboot all done.
This was under XP, so Vista will certainly be able to cope with the change.

It wasn't always that simple with XP, but anyway, this is irrelevant. There shouldn't be any issues.
