just curious cause i'm debating between i7 920 and the phenom 2 965 black
for my new build but will intel and amd be keeping the same socket for there new 6 core proccys

Any idea when we find out if the 930's will be 32nm? If they are might be time for an upgrade :D

Yeh the Intel one will be £800...I will be very very suprised if the AMD one will be over £250..........

and shortly after £230-£210-£205 prices id expect.

If it performs close to an i7 920-950 but for 1/3 of the price (when OC`d of course) then i would go with AMD.

thats what im waiting for. im starting my first PC build but want it to be great.

I have looked for ages at P55 and X58 but whilst prices of x58 drop to P55 levels i find it hard to choose.. top end processors to take advantage of X58 and dual x16 slot + tripple channel memory and X58 seems steep adding up the bits. where as dual channel, 4core and x8 x8 in crossfire doesnt float my boat on p55 long term either.

Powerfullest AMD CPU only £125, can be 4ghz also. further more mobo`s even the best ones with added soundcards and overclocking gubbins and sockets are still maximum £135 for the best and you also get 16x 16x lanes for SLI / Crossfire and 6 Core compatability.

to sumize im waiting for someone to get a 6 core amd, overclock and see the gains, if upto the best 4 core Intels (£400,£500,£600) range but at £250 or less then i know my mind is made up :D

the 980x will indeed be socket 1366

rjkoneill, just wondering if you have any info regarding the 930. I'm thinking about getting a 920 this month, but 930 should be coming out soon after? Do you know if they will be using similar stepping to the 920 to allow for a good overclock. Otherwise I'm guessing the 930, supposedly a faster CPU, will actually turn out to be slower if it doesn't OC as well?

Understand if you're not allowed to share this info or simply don't know :).

ive only used 4 i7 920s and all have O/C to 4GHz.....one a lot higher but is now dead may her soul rest in pieces :(

my guess [and its only a guess] is that it will be as follows

Q6600 > Q6700
Q9450 > Q9550
I7920 > I7930

its basically gonna be the same chip with +1 multi
it will be D0 so should theoretically clock the same, you might get a higher suicide shot, but all 130wTDP bloomfields essentially top out at an average of 4.3 - 4.4ghz

i would get a 920 now if you cant wait, otherwise the 930 may be a tad easier to clock

Lol! I hope that's not what she ended up as! Otherwise you need to cut down on how much you are overclocking those babies! :p

Thanks for the advice :) I'll try and wait out for the 930 :)

I'd just get a 920 now to be honest. The 930 will most likely be a bit higher in price when its released untill the 920 is entirely superseded so you'll be waiting a bit longer than the release date for the right price in my opinion. If it has a slightly higher multi however, it may be worth it, but you need a seriously odd multi to come up with 2.88GHz with a bclk of 133 so i'm not sure if it has :S

No the specs work out right, taken from the above link:

*2.80GHz (21x 133)
*2.93GHz Turbo (22x133)
*8MB L3
*4 Cores / 8 threads
*130W TDP
*Price should be same as 920 now.
