Will it be worth buying a PS3 this year?

Without going into the reasons why, I kinda regret buying a 360 instead of a PS3 (although to be fair, 360 was much cheaper when I jumped into the current gen). I still have my 360 but I'm thinking of getting a PS3 in maybe two or three months' time.

Is there any reason that would be a bad idea? I mean with regard to the buildup to next-gen, release dates, backwards compatibility of the PS4, likely price, predicted lifespan of the PS3 etc etc.

Any and all thoughts welcome! Ta.

Yeah, the great thing about jumping in really late is the extensive and cheaper back catalogue of games. I'm dying to play the Killzone series, not to mention Heavy Rain and Uncharted! :)

I use my PS3 for Uncharted series, God of War series and fighting games (better controller for fighting games).
Everything else goes on my 360.

It all depends on what you play.

I'm tempted to pick up a second hand unit, but will mostly be for Blu-Ray. Seen them go for £150~ in the MM with games. Plus God of War, Uncharted etc will keep me occupied for quite some time.

We won't find out any information till E3 about the current GEN anyway. I still reckon we have till early 2014 before they will be released anyway.

Splendid, I'm gonna pick one up in May/June then hopefully. Just think of all the lovely games that await! :D

I got mine last year and I'm snowed under with the crazy amount of exclusives I'm interested in.

Uncharted 1, 2 ,3
Killzone 2 and 3
Demons Souls
God of War 1 and 2 HD, 3, and PSP HD remasters
Resistance 3
LBP2
Gran Turismo 5
Yakuza 4
Infamous 1 and 2
Heavy Rain
Wipeout HD
MGS4

There are plenty more out there, so if those games are your type of thing, go for it.

Yep I'm interested in at least half of those. To be honest I'm more interested in Playstation exclusives than Xbox. Off the top of my head, the only series I'd really have missed if I'd gone PS3 before would be Gears of War.

It also helps that online gaming is free with the PS3. OK so £40 isn't much for a year, but I rarely play online anyway and would only want to dip into it on the occasional evening that I'm bored enough. Don't want to have to pay to do that on general principle!

It would have to be decent bundle of games for that to be worth it. There is usually somewhere selling them for £150/160 new.

I did this the other way round. I've had a PS3 for 3 years and bought an Xbox 360 slim 13 months ago which I have just sold. The gold sub was up and Alan Wake has just been released on the PC which was the main reason I bought the xbox. I'd say unless there are some games you really want to play then it might not be worth it this late on. I didn't find it hard which console to buy certain games for, which is usually what people think. The worst things about it are: Explaining to xbox work friends that yes I have COD but it's on the PS3 so can't join their games. The other main reason is justifying buying accessories for 2 consoles. Buying a 2nd controller for your 2nd console that you know might never get used etc. If we were talking new-gen then it would be different.

"Free" What was the deal?

300 mins / unlimited text ...sam tocco lite £20.50 / month . carphone warehouse . phone is abit pants but i wasn't going to use it anyway

i was comming towards end of contract .. so paid off my last month and got a new contract.

you can get it with orange / vodaphone and i think o2 networks in CW . there is a cheaper £15.50 tariff , but that was 100 mins and no good to me

you can pay more and get better phones as well .. your choice mind

Be at least 3 years before Sony release a new console

Agree 2 or 3 years , saw official statement from Sony that they are still giving PS3 100% backing.Would be silly for PS4 to be release . I guess Sony are waiting to see what new Xbox has to offer, thats not saying Sony are having plans for future PS4 ideas.

I still think we have not seen the best from PS3
