Hi guys,

I'm getting ready to play the new COD Advanced Warfare and looking to upgrade my current GFX card to the below:

Asus AMD Radeon R9 270X DirectCU II Top 4GB GDDR5 Graphics Card (PCI Express 3.0, HDMI, DVI-I, DVI-D, Display Port, 256-bit,

The spec of my existing system is below which meets the minimum requirements and I can even use my existing GFX card but is sluggish on COD Ghost so want to be able to get better resolution and performance.

If I install this card will I get a bottleneck with my current system build. I've OC'd the Q6600 to 3.2Ghz and have the OCZ IBIS 256Gb SSD, but will I be limited? Will the card be overkill for the system?

Thanks in advance.

A toothbrush could run COD at max.
You'll be fine with a overclocked Q6600 and a 270x.

Although going from a 7870 to a 270X is a small jump, if you can budget it in the 770's and 780's are dropping like mad in price.

I'm guessing you have access to the MM (Looking at your join date).

He won't because you need 1000 posts......I checked yesterday :(

He's right about the difference between the 7870 and 270x, pretty much the same card. What's the max you're willing to pay?

Thanks for the replies guys. Basically I'm not limited to price. I am looking to upgrade my rig in April next year so if I buy a GFX card now at around £200-£250 then I'd like it to be valid for a few years on a new mobo and CPU.

Thanks

BTW what is "MM"?

GTX 970! easy! Top end of your budget with a little extra but well worth it. Just cross everything that you don't get coil whine! There doesn't seem to be any particular brand that's better than the other, luck of the draw. And if that doesn't bother you anyway then nothing to worry about (some people are more sensitive than others when it comes to noise).

I've had various GFX cards over the years and the ones that have been most reliable have been the ASUS. I've had BFG that continuously fail but since they went bust I've baked the cards and got them working again.

I'll take a look at the 290 and see if I can get a good price on it.

What's "MM" you mention in your last but 1 post?

Members Market.

I've thought about what I've just said! I think you might be better off buying a i5 and mobo now and then a GPU in April! then you can get the 970 without coil whine......by this I assume they will have fixed the issue by then! I'm pretty certain current CPU will bottleneck a 970 or 290.

The requirements changed so older members may have access as the post count was lower.

Members Market is great at the moment for a cheap GPU.

OK I've just looked down the forum and I have access to the Members Market but to be honest and no disrespect to OC but it is awful! Having to go into each listing to get a view of what you want without a picture image or detailed description is Wack! Apologies OC if I am not seeing it right but if I look on any website I can scroll and click in seconds. Get into the 2020's guys seriously.
