Will RAM speed automatically be downgraded to suit CPU?

My current setup is the following:
Asus P8Z68-V Pro
2500K
980Ti
8GB RAM

Trying to eek a bit more time out of this rig before a complete motherboard, CPU e.t.c. upgrade, I thought I would upgrade the RAM after reading the 2500K article on Eurogamer last year. I tracked down a kit of 16GB DDR3 2400Mhz Corsair RAM for a decent price after a bit of searching. I now realize my CPU limits the speed of the RAM.

I was wondering, after I swap in the new RAM, will it automatically see it at the max of 1600Mhz due to the limitations of Sandybridge? Then I have to go and overclock it? 1866Mhz seems to be the optimum speed? Maybe try 2133Mhz.

It will set it to the highest supported JEDEC profile the memory controller can support, which for SB I'm pretty sure is 1333MHz. The XMP profiles you'll need to manually set yourself, depending on which Corsair kit it is, there should be a couple of XMP profiles to choose from in your BIOS setting.
