Will Sega ever release another console?

I personally don't think so but it doesn't mean we're not open to speculation. I reckon their best chance is after either on of the following flop:
X-Box XYZ
PS X
Nintendo XYZ

Why? It means if they are to compete they can compete with two, which they were used to in the old days, as apposed to three which to be quite frank will be too much. They have loads of game support as if i'm not mistaken they make games.

What do you reckon?

Surely no one would own a Wii instead of a PS3 or 360 but as well as.

Why do you think everyone has limitless funds or something? Id say plenty of people opted for the wii purely for price point and not needing a hdtv to get the best out of the visuals.

I doubt Sega will release another console, shame really as it would be good to see them kill off Nintendo once and for all :D

If their Genesis couldn't kill of the NES, they should have just gave up then tbh. :D

Edit:

Infact they shouldn't have becasue I adore my Dreamcast. :p

And the Sega Saturn had some of the best games ever!

There aint been a console yet to beat the saturns launch line up including sega rally, Virtua fighter and Daytona :) I'm gonna get one again off the bay once my new desk comes.

Personally I preferred the Master system to the NES, Megadrive to the Snes.

Then it all went pair shaped. The saturn was great but no one seemed to know about it.

The trouble is, everyone loved seag because of the arcade machines and the hope you would get a decent port. Nowadays not many people bother with getting their cutting edge thrills at an arcade.

Indeed, the decline of the Arcade has really hurt Sega.
Infact, a colleague from my current Games Production project is writing his final report on the decline of the arcade and its effects on social gaming.

Last arcade type thing I went to was the ATEI show at Earls court. We were there to look at the SWP machines, but we decided to sneak in some time on the game machines ;)

Can't say I was impressed, graphics were dire and most of the games were quite boring.

I was always a bigger fan of the Master System over the Nes, but the Snes beat the mega drive in my oppinion.

I'd love to see Sega give the console market another bash, the Dreamcast is up there as 1 of my favourite consoles, but game wise I havn't seen anything outstanding from Sega lately. I like Sonic and the secret rings on the Wii, but it's not a AAA title.

I think the last time I went to an arcade was that sega world place in London. It must have been a long while ago because Damon Hills Williams from 93 was on show in the Sega livery :D

I'm one of the people that never got a dreamcast. I kinda gave up on console gaming after losing my life savings to the saturn ;)

I am thinking of maybe trying to pick one up and the die hards on here still rave about it.

Not a chance.

Shame really as the Saturn is my favourite console.

Without wanting to seem like a total fanboy, how on gods green earth can you make the Saturn a favourite anything?! It was shockingly bad. I collect consoles, and love playing almost all of them, but the Saturn is one I will never feel the need to buy again.

Well, horses for courses and that.

I too collect consoles my friend, and the Saturn is my favourite of the lot. This is out of every Sega console from the Master System through to the Dreamcast and every Nintendo Console up to, but not including, the Wii. I also have every Playstation, every incarnation of the Gameboy and a Neo Geo AES. Out of all my consoles, I have the fondest memories from playing the Saturn. I still power it up quite regularly for X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes and Radiant Silvergun. I also play through Panzer Dragoon Saga every two years or so. The main problem was that Sega backed a 2D horse in what was ultimately a 3D race.

Just out of interest, what's your favourite?

Thanks a lot Dan,
I've just spent the last 30 minutes looking at Sega Saturn deals on eBay. Must.Get.One.

Yeah Saturn was a great console, all my PS1 friends used to mock me for buying it but I did not care, just out of interest was the Saturn ever emulated on the Xbox or even Dreamcast?

Would love to play Nights one more time :)

You really should, the Dreamcast is probably my favourite console ever. You'll find amongst the console purists that that's a general consensus too. How it failed I'll never know. I guess people who wanted a console for the sake of a console got the PS2 and the purists weren't enough for Dreamcast to survive.

Back to eBay to check on Dreamcast prices...
