Will the BBC ever be the same again?

i wonder why no one complains about Mock the Week, everytime i watch that show i wonder how they(frankie b) get away with it, but still funny though

Actually an MP raised a question on the floor the other day about a Frankie Boyle gag from Mock the week about the Queen being so old that her ***** was haunted.

It wasn't even that good a gag.

The BBC needs change, particularly the money they waste on people like Ross and Norton, but I'd still keep it as an incredibly valuable buffer that stops our TV degenerating to US standards.

And for those who think that US TV is good, we get less than 1% of it in this country; the rest is utter mind numbing dross.

Hang on where you not quite happy when Ross and Brand got hauled over the coals, because lets be honest you personally didn't like them.

What they did was the problem not them.

You defended that action well now people have taken offence at top gear. It should be pulled from air pending an investigation..

Your being a tad silly I feel. Its hardly the same. Its all about context.

Infact tommorow I'm going to complain, even though I turned off the TV halfway through top gear as for the first time I found it dull. I will phone up and complain about a joke I didn't even see to see if I can help make 30,000 moaners and get the show pulled.

Do it.Its being shown on the BBC website so even though you didn't see the broadcast you still have chance to watch it online.Thats the Beauty of the BBC.

Ie, full of crappy programs with about 5 epidodes of something decent like planet earth per year, while wasting £8mill on Ross and Norton that could have been spent on aforementioned program, I certainly hope not.

Your missing the the fact the majority of the BBC's audience is from Radio :p

I don't find the endless reality shows/generic costume dramas educational and informative. This slide towards censorship from them is a bit alarming though.

This was exactly my thought. Jokes on there are much more distasteful at times, why not sack them too?! Let's just sack everyone.

Clarkson clearly wasn't being serious, it was intended as a joke but wasn't very funny anyway. Top gear is a bit tongue in cheek now anyway isnt it? I don't get why people are so offended by this when the same jokes are presented in a slightly different format.

Isn't it slightly ironic that the 'champion of decency', the Daily Mail which has taken the ball and is running with it, is also so vehemently against 'political correctness', which is all about censorship for fear of offending people.

They should seriously allow as much or as little swearing as they like. What will happen is :

1) People will go nuts and quality will go rock bottom
2) The words will lose all power
3) People will get bored of them
4) Swearwords will no longer exist.

Instead of *denying* that they exist, *embrace* them, and they will lose their power.

Tbh nothing will come of the complaints about Clarkson, it's just a good story for people to report at the moment. The Ross/Brand thing however, was a much worse offence as the people it directed at have stated they are not pleased with the event, also the fact he is an OAP will win a lot of support from the public. This is different because less than 1% of lorry drivers have said they are upset about the joke.

Also, AFAIK Top Gear is one of the most highly rated programs on the BBC, so I can't see them sacking Clarkson anytime soon.

Well you were at the forefront of the angry mob so if it does, it's down entirely to people like yourself.

I think it's just clicked to easyrider that he can't pick and choose what is or isn't offensive based solely on who he doesn't like. The irony of him of all people starting this thread is somewhat amusing.

Wasn't that basically the message of one of the episodes of South Park?

Suppose you could say that the Clarkson comments were aimed at two seperate groups of people whereas the Ross-Brand comments were specific to one person that only affected that person's family ? Arguably the Clarkson comments worse ? Dunno really, the only thing I will say is that maybe it wasn't a particularly good judgement by the BBC to air this pre-recorded show (ie that part) in the light of the whole BBC thing right now as rightly or wrongly it would prob result in what we have now

Only thing is where will this all end, It looks like this could become a weekly event now with something kicking off

It appears the road haulage ascociation aren't best pleased from reading several news reports

People who have no other joy in their life and complain about everything have finally had a taste of power, they got Ross suspended, and got rid of Brand, they think they can throw their weight around now and do it everytime they complain about something.

This whole thing will soon die down again when they realise that's not the case.

I find it funny when people bitch about the TV license. I don't think they realise just how much that fee covers. A basic Sky package will cost you £200 odd a year and have five minutes or more of advertising per half hour programming annd the majority of programs it provides are free-to-air anyway. So you're paying £200 odd for adverts and freely available television. What Sky channels they do include are hardly rivetting entertainment.

As for what Clarkson said, I lol'd.

I don't condon what R&B did but it's been blown way out proportion by the media.. again..

The problem is that other channels, such as C4, have been pushing the boundaries for years, which strangely is acceptable. The beeb in the meantime have been left dragging their feet behind a bit and have fallen flat on their arses trying to play catch up. I’m sorry, but they know what Ross, Brand and Clarkson are all about and they are using these guys as scapegoats to get out of what for the beeb is still a hot spud rather than facing the issues and defending them.
