in a psu topic I was thinking of getting a small case with a pico to house my am1 so I can take it with me if I go away for a weekend or whatever, mainly to watch movies and use offline and the odd games should they run. I tested out 2 point hospital on it yesterday and is sluggish as expected even on very low settings, I couldn’t imagine intel graphics doing any better, so it got me thinking about the sims as I used to love that game, only got 3 and 4, but not installed them, but want them all.

Anyways to achieve this I would be looking at 90-100 quid for the case and power stuff and you can get a Nuc or brix for not much more which all I would need to buy is the ram, so I am now thinking of leaving my AM1 setup how it is currently and just buy a mini pc....

I’m just curious if the celeron based units will be a waste of money for older gamer such as the sims series as those the sort of games I’d play away from home?

Why post a life story? Simply ask is Intel's IGPU capable of playing the Sims at a respectable FPS? Short answer is no, probably not.

Buy an AMD APU, cheap and it will handily play the Sims

Just to note, from my experience, anything fanless probably wont cope,
Anything 3D chugs on the Celeron N4100 based mini PC I have, temperatures go to around 90c the moment you try

The only two solutions you should probably look at for a tiny gaming rig are the Athlon 200GE or the R3 2200G. For gaming without a separate GPU, the Athlon will outperform any Intel chip at ~£50 (except in heavily CPU bound games) and the R3 will be roughly double the performance of the Athlon at ~£100.

thanks for replies.

life story? bit rude of a reply dont you think!, i was giving a background behind my question as if its not better suited than my AM1 then no point buying a mini pc with said hardware, its also for anyone who looks in other sections and might think why am i asking.

i dont know what fps i would get in the sims to worry about it, even on low settings i would like smoother gameplay unlike 2 point hospital though, its not like i would be playing games on it all the time, just smaller than carrying a laptop.

i did think of a 2200g, but wasnt sure if a pico would work with one and what be the smallest case that can house one? not worried about fanless or not just want small and portable.
