will the ps3 ever reach the standard of xbox live?

You takes things on this forum much more seriosuly than most so go and get your self a bottle of Oasis and chill with the still ;)

When you "joke" in so many threads it gets boring. I don't take it as seriously as you think but I admit I am quick to call people up on things. I'll let it go now.

MS Will add playing p2p unranked games to silver membership so it seems they're on an even keel but they'll definately keep gold membership for first dabs at demos, netflick and ranked matches. This will make it seem quite cost effective vs sony and the costs for Qore.

I agree, I could see this happening too, Although I think they would most likely Make silver memberships play any game online across the board, wether it be ranked or unranked, and then gold members can download the demos etc.

I hope so as it's one of the things holding me back from getting another 360 tbh.

One of the things that is tempting me to buy a PS3 is the free online play, but how good is it compared to Xbox Live these days? I have a subscription to Live, but when it runs out I don't know if I will be resubbing tbh.

Sony's online service is better than Xbox LIVE imo because it gives me everything that I want already for free. I can now read and send messages whilst in game and that's what I really wanted to be able to do.

you get messaging free with a silver live account though

Free online play is why I justified getting a PS3 in the first place. Buy a 2nd hand PS3, if I don't like it I can sell it with no accounts to deal with etc.

Less lag, far less players, no voice chat, pathetic integration.

TBH I played online by myself on the PS3 and it worked superbly. If you play with groups of people the 360 system is far better.

Surely you'll be able to join the US or Jap home servers to get that content with the US / Jap PSN IDs most people already use to get on to the other PSN stores?

Probably not, it will be like the video store which we are locked out of even with US accounts.

Region locking Home, which is supposedly all about bringing friends together to do activities (oh, and advertise to them), is so stupid.

Sums it up really well IMO. If you're not interested in playing sociably with friends the PS3 is brilliant. I loved it around launch, playing Resistance fall of man.
