will the ps3 ever reach the standard of xbox live?

I think the overall times they said Blu-ray was 19 times within the 1hr 30mins. Remember reading about it yesterday on QJ.

As I did say, for me personally, I did feel the calibre of games shown on the MS conference were a lot better, and also it sold the games more for me on the 360 as they gave better introductions, descriptions and shown actual in-game gameplay. rather than mostly CGI trailers which always kinda puts me off. Only my opinion, people will defo think different to me.

They showed 3 cgi trailers all for 2009 games, DC mmo, Mag and GOW3, all far to early to show so its better than just saying we got this and we got that, south park game and portal game on XBLA for an example. MS demoed most of there games at there conference, most of which are 2008 games, Sony showed them later on, Sony had 3 platforms to show rather than 1, if they had to show in as much detail as MS did there conference woulda been about 3 hours long lol! No point Sony showing talking about RB2, GHWT, Fallout 3, Res5, as Microsoft had done the day before and there all multi platform games.

As mentioned by several, Sony's fundamental flaw of not having the full PSN functionality built into the background OS, and the lack of unified interfacing to PSN for developers is going to make in a mammoth struggle to match MS in that respect.

But, being free (they really couldn't charge for it though), and leaving developers upto their own devices has led to the nice side effect of having more dedicated servers, etc, so in some aspects they sticking it to MS, who really need to address their shortcomings in some areas to ensure we don't mind paying the fees.

Going back to the OP's question, as like most threads we've gone of track.

No I don't think Sony's service will equal Live, although HOME will probably help with more of a community feel it will have restrictions and will be more aimed at either the casual community or the clans, but not those that just want to hook up with a couple of mates for a quick game.

Personally I prefer Sony's current service because like others I game online rarely and tbh don't want to chat etc so I begrudge paying for a service that I won't fully benefit from, but obviously I can see the benefit for others.

Also as it's been mentioned already I think dedicated servers are essential to online gaming, especially for games that really are built with online in mind, i.e. COD4, BF:BC.

You only have to look at possibley two of the biggest games coming this year, GOW2 & R2 to see the benefits of using dedicated servers and imo 5 vs 5 for a casual gamer just doesn't cut it. Obviously community wise (playing with friends) that number is more exceptable. This doesn't mean bigger is always better but more of a I can play small, medium & large scale games online with no fear of them being ruined by lag or the host having a hissy fit and quitting out mid game.

My 2P (for what it's worth)

Sony do great hardware, but are years behind when it come to intergrating software with their stuff, which is a shame, I wouldnt be surprised if Sony EVER get online gaming "right", I dont see them having a chance to catch Live now.

Home to be region locked.

We were given a pretty in-depth walkthrough of the current state of Home, including a couple of game spaces (images of those later), during which we asked the bloke as many questions as we could think of. Top of our list? Making sure that we would be able to meet up with our friends all across the planet in the various public spaces. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Home's public spaces are going to be region-specific.

If you want to meet up with your pals from abroad, then you'll be able to invite them into your apartment, but warping into the game space to bowl or play chess is not possible. This is allegedly to make sure that each region receives an "experience most suited to their tastes" as well as, no doubt, to keep advertisers happy. The last thing they want is Europeans seeing an advert directed at Americans.

Er no im not going to argue as youll call me a fan girl lol :D. But Konami wanted it this way its there game, If sony said no there would be no MGO on MGS4, it would have been just a separate game. Pretty much like When you have to link your Live account to EA i think thats correct? Is that microsofts call or EA's?

A game would fail the criteria for the Microsoft compliance tests if it did. Microsoft just wouldn't let it be released.

Well, that's a load of turd. I wish they'd let us worry about what we see instead of trying to force us to see specific content and constantly region locking crap.

Surely you'll be able to join the US or Jap home servers to get that content with the US / Jap PSN IDs most people already use to get on to the other PSN stores?

Good news, Is the main criticism in this thread for PSN is the MGO network, Something not developed by Sony. :)

So sounds like people aren't too upset with PSN as a lone Network.

Not got any major issues with PSN, it all works, but their lack of integration and their willingness to bend over and mess up the system for other companies let it down.

home is region locked?
so i cant even use it with my friends and family in the us and canada?
what a fail!

You can still invite people from outside of your region to your home, but not wander round the space outside of your home if you see what i mean.
