Will the RTX3070 work with my current rig?

However, what gets me is, if running 1080P surely a 3000 series is a complete waste of coinage as I can't think of a single game I own that I can't max 1080P, ultra settings and be not getting 100fps+? Why not save money and go 2080 Super or something 2nd hand? Anyway, everyone to their own, but if I had a 1080P montior no way would I be switching out a 1080TI or above level card which I'm seeing a lot of people doing... unless suppose they're running 244 and 300hz montiors maybe and want MONSTER fps?

That's the main reason you'd run a high end card with a 1080P monitor, you get a lot of people into esports that chase frames above all else and the highest refresh rate monitors are generally 1080P.

The problem is, at 1080P CPU limitation is much more of a problem, so you'd ideally want a highly overclocked current Intel chip to go with such a card in that circumstance.

So the 1080p 144hz for me is temp for now, was planning on buying the RTX370 and then getting an upgraded monitor for Christmas, so not a complete waste of coinage, and my current GFX is a GTX970 so its well old haha

ahh then it makes sense, prepping cool. Yeah just get one slap it in, whether you bottleneck or not, you're gonna see a world of difference and YOU may think it's not worth upgrading other components. For me if your'e happy with the performance why upgrade... so yeah be nice new montiors are lovely I'm running 4k right now, but would be nice to have higher refresh rates on them!

A nice 1440P monitor should ease things up on the CPU a little for you.

I'd consider saving for a Ryzen 4000/B550 platform down the line though, as even at 1440P you're going to be held back by your CPU. With the next generation of consoles launching this year with 8c/16t Ryzen chips you can expect games to become more multi-threaded going forward.
