Hi, I have been out of the loop so am not up to speed on things, a little bit of scanning the forums and I have come up with what I hope will make a nicely overclockable system (on air) :

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
EVGA nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)

Anyone I could do better without spending more ?

Presumably the CPU even at stock, is faster than an opty @ 2.9 ?

What would be the best quiet air cooling solution for the CPU ?

Do the Conroes run hot or cool in relation to Opty's ?

Presumably CPU is multi locked, so overclocking is done on the FSB ?

Cheers

save some money on mobo and buy an asus p5w dh (50 quid less),

yes at almost everything it will beat an [email protected], definately once youv'e OC'd it,

Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B Heatpipe CPU Cooler, though people will argue about that or tuniq or others,

hot if your using the retail HSF for overclocking, not much diff. to the heat an OC'd opty produces once you have aftermarket cooling on,

yes by the fsb

Hmm I had heard the intel chipsets can be poor o/c, wereas the 680i is meant to be very good o/c ?
So a 6600 would need what fsb to run, say, 3.2 ... I am not familiar with the FSB and such on the Conroes ?
What CPU speed could I get without taking the memory above its rated speed but keeping it 1:1 ?

thats totally wrong, whoever/wherever you heard that from doesnt know much

yes this board is great at overclocking but not worth the ludicrous price tag it has ATM, if you really want this board, wait a couple of months

forget keeping memory at 1:1, running on a divider doesnt matter and will allow you to get a massive overclock, running at 1:1 will not give you any gain and will just impede your overclock

Aye .. but what does 1:1 at that memory's rated speed equate too out of curiosity ;)

Is the Thermaltake Big Typhoon 4 in 1 Heatpipe any good ?
