hello fellow peoples,

a very nice friend has just given me a gtx280 and i currently have this motherboard:

I havent tried yet as i am at work but i do not think that they are compatible?

would someone be able to suggest a socket am2+ or am3 mobo that is reasonably cheap that would support the gtx 280? im not looking for a complete rebuild or anything and all my other parts are fine. i dont think i have enough 4 pin sockets though...

any help appreciated :)

The GTX 280 will fit in that motherboard - you just need to ensure you have the room in your case and the right connectors from your PSU.

If you're short of 6-pin gfx connectors you can buy an adapter - link.

What is the brand, model and age of your PSU?

hello, thanks for your reply. I currently am running this psu http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-118-AN

Its not a performance orientated model but neither is it particularly cheap, i bought it less than a year ago.

Cool, hopefully will work then, i think my only problem now is that my current mobo doesnt have an spdif out and the gtx 280 doesnt have a built in hdmi out.

I use this mainly for games and run it through my tv for sofa related reasons :P
heretical i know but its comfy.

I'll plug my speakers in for the moment and use a dvi to hdmi adapter i have at home and hopefully this should get me running, albeit not in the bes possible circumstances but I dont really have the correct funding to rectify this for the moment so will carry on.

Thank you sir.

Nothing wrong with that PSU - and perfectly up for the job of runing your spec plus new card. You wont need the adapter i lonked to earlier either as it has 2 x 6 pin gfx connector.

No complaints here - do what is best for you and comfort is never a bad thing.
