Will this be fast?? - spec me an alternative please!

Hi,

I have the opportunity of buying the following at a very good price (£550 in total)

HP Mini Tower (ML115 Server) [Black/Silver]
Quad-Core AMD Opteron 2.10Ghz
8GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM
DVD-ROM Drive
DVD-RW Drive
1x 160GB SATA
3x 1TB SATA Hitachi 7200rpm 16MB Cache
1GB Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT
23" Samsung Monitor (Wide Screen Aspect) 2048x1152 [Black]
External USB Audio Box
Trust Speakers
Huey Monitor Calibration Device (Boxed)
HP Mouse
HP Keyboard
Canon Multifunction MP620 - Colour Inkjet (boxed) [Scanner/Printer]

Will this be as fast as the current quad core intel's and phenoms?

Cheers

Matt

To be honest, I wouldn't buy that. £550 is a lot of money for a not particularly powerful, old tech, no-warranty system - even if it does come with a half-decent monitor.

If you want a system for games, something like this would be far better - or build it for yourself.

So the quad core wont be as fast as a dual core amd?

Im not into games much so i could upgrade that at a later date.

i thought it was a good price tbh considering the printer, monitor and 3x1tb hard drives were included. Plus the 8gb ram isnt gonna be slow is it?

So its not worth it then.

I think i will do that then and buy the stuff from ocuk and build it myself.

Just thought it was a bargain cause of the 8gb ram, quad core, 3tb hd, printer and monitor

Hi,

Thanks all for the help.

My budget isnt only £550 , i do actually have, and did originally budget £1200 for a new setup.

But to spend £1200 it would have to be a cut above the normal for me to spend that.

I will use it for photography, fsx, normal uni work, some movie editing etc

What would be the best system for £1200? (must include a decent monitor of at least 24")

Matt
