Hello everyone, bought the bitfenix prodigy M case a couple of weeks ago planning to build a custom PC but a family member has bought me gaming PC it looks pretty good but i would like to transfer the parts from that PC into my Prodigy M case here is all i know whats in the case:

Intel® Core™ i7-4790 quad core processor
Windows 8.1
Storage: 3TB
16Gb RAM
DVD-RW optical drive
Nvidia GTX750 TI Graphics Card
Wi-Fi enabled
1 set 5.1 channel Audio jacks (3 jacks)
6 x USB 2.0 ports

Will i have any problems installing these parts into the Prodigy M is my question? Any help would be apprecaited thanks,

Simon.

If the motherboard (not stated) is micro-ATX not ATX, it will fit. PSU (not stated) length will probably not matter as the 750TI's don't tend to be that long. You'll have to remove the front panel each time you wish to use the DVD drive, if you insert it in the Prodigy M's interior optical bay.

I've found the PC in question on the web for around £850 plus £70 for a 3 year warranty, and it's not that great to be honest. It will have a very cheap custom "non-branded" motherboard (as evidenced by the non-inclusion of USB 3.0 and the omission of the motherboard model's name) and a cheap PSU (as evidenced by the omission of the PSU's name and wattage and 12v output). Also, the 750Ti is either a cut-down version with just 1GB memory or it isn't a 750TI at all but a normal 1GB 750. Dunno, never heard of 1GB 750Ti's.

So it's heavy on the CPU and RAM (16GB), to attract attention (i7! Loadsa RAM!), but skimped on the GPU (vital for gaming), mobo and PSU. Upgrading it may not be easy. PSU will likely not handle a more powerful GPU. Mobo may be a bugger too.

If your family member is the kind who'd understand if you asked them to return it, to get something better for gaming, then I'd do that. Otherwise don't hurt their feelings. At the end of the day it won't cost you anything but you would have been better off building the custom PC you planned, no doubt.

the motherboard inside is a Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3

If it is, that's okay, but that motherboard has USB 3.0 and the one in your spec doesn't? Strange.

See if you can find out the PSU.

You should be able to replace parts, it's just that you could have built the same yourself for £150-200 cheaper (rough calculation), and put that money towards a better video card and SSD for instance.

Hmm yeah they haven't added much information about the spec really but the usb 3 ports are blue right? it has two of these on the front, but yeah i understand now after looking at the parts in the PC that i could have built a more powerful and cheaper one myself i am guessing its overprice because its a pre built computer, and the extra cost is for labour? i don't know but thank you for helping i appreciate it, and the case i have is the prodigy m can i fit the Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3 inside? i bought the prodigy M instead of the prodigy MMATX case im a little confused, do both the MATX and M case only support micro ATX motherboards? :S

Also the Nvidia GTX750 TI i believe is a 2GB i may be wrong i did research the card and find a 2GB card on the Nvidia website, But i do have the option from a friend to purchase a 4gb GTX 745 would this card be better or worse? thanks,

Simon.

Yes, blue should mean USB 3.0.

Well take this spec for instance. I've used a similar (not the same) motherboard and gone for a decent 500W Bronze PSU as I don't know which that rig has.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4790 3.60GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £249.95
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 750Ti OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (N750Ti-2GD5/OCV1) £99.95
1 x GeIL Black Dragon 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GD316GB1600C11DC) **OcUK Exclusive** £91.99

1 x Gigabyte KM6150 Keyboard and Mouse Set £10.99
Total : £747.42 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Say OcUK would have built it for you (if you'd sent them your Prodigy M case) - they would charge around £60 and the 3-year warranty would be included. And that's a 750Ti in there for sure. So unless I found the wrong product when I searched the spec you gave me, it would come out a lot cheaper.

i don't know but thank you for helping i appreciate it, and the case i have is the prodigy m can i fit the Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3 inside? i bought the prodigy M instead of the prodigy MMATX case im a little confused, do both the MATX and M case only support micro ATX motherboards? :S

The Prodigy M and the Prodigy M-ATX are the exact same case, and it supports Micro-ATX motherboards, yes, so it would fit that motherboard.

It's the Mini-ITX version that is different and wouldn't fit a Micro-ATX board.

Right, it would be very surprising for a Ti to only have 1GB as stated in that spec.

And a 750Ti will beat a 745. And I believe the latter are only made by Nvidia for Dell and may not be usable on non-Dell boards (don't quote me on that but it's a very common thing with Dell's) so be careful. Try before buy if anything. But 750Ti is best anyway.

Thanks for the info I think I will have a go myself at swapping the parts into the prodigy m even though every time i open the case and look inside it scares the hell out of me, It looks super difficult to understand and work with but I will take your advice and not bother buying the 745 I was kind of drawn to it because of the 4gb over the 750ti's 2gb, is there a possibility I can upgrade the psu for a better one? And do know any decent one's I can swap with the current one with a budget of say £60? What about the EVGA you showed me in the setup, would that be suitable for me? Thanks,

Simon.

Take your time with the case, and watch videos of builds with it.

As for the PSU, it depends on (a) which video card you use and (b) how much you want to spend. That EVGA 500B is fine for the money but a better choice would be a SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W Gold, and then even better are PSUs like the EVGA G2s and SuperFlower Leadexes.

For a 750Ti and a non-overclockable i7-4790, you just need a 350W PSU. But grab a bigger one for future video card upgrades, if possible.

Thanks would the super flower golden green be any good for the 750ti and my non overclockable processor? If so I can probably fit it when I do the case swap,
thanks

Is the hx 450 any good for me?

Even the 350 Golden Green HX will run the i7-4790 and a 750Ti, so the 450 HX would do it comfortably. But try and get the 550 HX (or similar quality 500/550/600) because you will want to upgrade the 750Ti at some point. The 750Ti doesn't require much power at all but better ones do.

Thanks, i have purchased the 550 HX so will add it when i do the case swap, i am not sure that the Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3 will fit in my case because doesnt my case only support micro and mini atx motherboards? the Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3 is just an atx motherboard isn't it? sorry i am confused noobs huh?

Oh dear. I got mixed up with the B85 I used in my basket above, which is a Micro-ATX. The HD3 is an ATX... brain fart. Well you already had the case anyway, but yeah that motherboard won't fit. If you really want to use your Prodigy M case, you'd have to sell the motherboard and buy a Micro-ATX board.

Ah no worries I suppose I can use the case for a while whilst I save for another motherboard thankyou for helping
