Will this upgrade work?

I've got a quick question...
I've got an 8700(non K) and a 1070. Can upgrade to a 4060 or will it just massively bottleneck? I mainly play fs2020, Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080 but would like to be able to play at 1440 at a decent frame rate.

Yes you can.

Sure your 8700 will loose a few FPS compared to a modern CPU but still will be a decent upgrade from your 1070.

4060 is not marketed for 1440p and while it is doable (especially with older games), it is a pretty weak card and won't last long at this resolution.

Thanks for your help. Yes I'm worried that the 4060 will age quickly. Just trying to avoid building a whole new system!

If you can afford it grab a 7800xt or a 7900gre will be great upgrade for 1440p.

Yes I had thought about the 7800xt. Will my 500w PSU cut it?

yes but not really
7800xt power spikes are up to 330w
cutting it very close

A 7700xt might now be at a price it's worth considering

Or a Radeon 6800 might be a worthwhile upgrade there is some on clearance that is reasonable price.

Both perform better than the 4060 and can handle 1440p.

Do you have pcie3 or 4 socket? Wondering if this may bottleneck a newer gpu

How long are you gaming for?
What is the case cooling?
