I already have a 1000W PSU & I'm undecided on CPU Cooler as of yet.

the razer addons are just out of preference :P

I`d swap the ssd for a 120gb or M4 128gb for OSand essential software/games.
And the velociraptor for barracuda 2Tb hdd for storage.

What will be your main uses for this rig?

Win 7 Ultimate is a waste of time unless you NEED the additional features it has over Home Premium. This seems unlikely given the spec of the system.

Get rid of the Velociraptor in favour of a high density 7200 RPM 1/2TB HDD and up to a 120GB SSD at least. The SSD is your low latency access time drive so you have no need for noisy, hot, 10K RPM mechanical drives with slightly better access times compared to a 7200RPM unit. A 7200RPM 2TB HDD will be just as fast as a 600GB Raptor in data storage for all intent and purpose.

RAM is overkill, do not need 2133MHz stuff, get cheaper 1.5Volt 1600MHz Sandybridge sticks.

As much as I prefer nVidia personally if you MUST buy now I would swap the 580s for 7950s and clock them. SLI 580s are going to chuck out a metric craptonne of heat on air. The 3GB versions are also pretty damn expensive. That or wait to see what Kepler offers.

To echo what the guys have said above:

- Go for a decent size SSD like a 120/128GB model - ideally a crucial M4 or Intel 520.

- Ditch the velociraptor (it is fast, but as a storage drive it is just too loud, hot and expensive) - a good 7200rpm drive from WD, seagate or samsung would be a better option overall

- Unless you really need the features of Windows 7 ultimate, drop the windows version down to Win 7 Professional. This allows you to access the same amount of memory as Ultimate (192GB AFIAK) and is much cheaper. If you are going for 16GB of system memory and 3GB graphics then you will need to address more than the 16GB total memory that Windows 7 Home Premium allows - so best not to go for that version.

- Go for better value, slower RAM (the kit RJC suggested is ideal). Sandy bridge systems don't really make good use of really high speed RAM (see this test) and a decent 1600MHz kit is pretty much all you need.

- Go for the HD 7950 3GB over the GTX 580 3GB cards. These cards are generally faster and use less power.

Also, I would add the following suggestions:

- The ASUS Maximus 4 board is really very expensive. If you only plan to run two high-end graphics card then you would do just as well to opt for a much cheaper board like this one - since the bridging chip in the Maximum only helps provides extra bandwidth for three card configurations, this board does not create two x16 when running with two cards. Therefore running two cards in SLI/CF will run at x8/x8 speed (bypassing the bridging chip for reduced latency) - exactly the same as the cheaper board link to above. If you really want a high-bandwidth board (that allows x16/x16 graphics) then I would suggest looking at a X79 board and the i7 3820 which is coming out next monday.

- If you are spending so much money on a sound card, I wouldn't suggest bypassing it by using an expensive USB headset. Instead I would suggest a nice stereo headset with analogue connections- Sennheiser do some nice ones.

- Consider a mechanical switch keyboard - they really are fantastic.

Good spot, I saw the USB headset first and did not even think to look for a sound card as a result!

As andi has stated. A USB headset has it's own soundcard (DAC) so will not use the dedicated sound card at all. It will sit and do nothing.

Either go for a decent pair of stereo headsets (surround headset if you wish but they are a gimmick in my opinion) + dedicated soundcard

OR

A USB headset that requires no soundcard.

Fair enough guys, taking on board everything that you have suggested. How do i link current basket like beijjacobs just has?

The RAM, SSD and hard drive are much better.

As for the things I would suggest changing (refering to my above post):

- The Windows 7 Home Premium will not allow you to address all the RAM -so go for Windows 7 Profession 64bit OEM.

- It has both the usb headset and sound card - either go for just the headset or keep the sound card and change the headset to one that uses the analogue audio output connections of a sound card.

- The motherboard (carried over from you original spec) is crazy expensive and doesn't offer much benefits over a £123 model if you only plan to use two graphics cards. Either go for a cheaper board or switch to a X79 board and i7 3820 CPU.
