Feeling like we had when the original PlayStation launched? I remember the 1st time i played the ps1 coming from the super nintendo, i played tomb raider 1 and resident evil 1 and my mind was blown at the 3d graphics and the gameplay amazing times man It was truly a golden era of gaming.Sure the next gen consoles are leaps ahead in terms of graphics and dynamics and i love them but for me that's what i expected, nothing has really blown my mind and felt like the same quantum leap i got from the ps1.

Do you think we will ever experience such huge leap again? or will it all be like gradual progression/ next logical step etc. I would rather have gone from ps1 to ps4 and skipped ps2 and ps3 just for that OMFG feeling lol.

If we ever get direct neural implants, then I think that would be a massive leap from an image on a screen controlled by buttons.

When we get jacked into the matrix, so we are actually in the game world and can eat, see, feel, smell the world around us.

Will you ever be 5 years old again? That feeling of wowza was it part due to being a child getting excited and carried away by something new and exciting as children naturally do. Now that i / we are adults everything seems much less impressive.

Having said that, the leap this time around is not very impressive. I believe the increase or acceleration year on year of computational power peaked in the mid late 90s sp it probably was a bog leap. I wasn't allowed a ps1 so i wouldn't know XD

You should have got a n64

I had a 32x I didnt think the Saturn or PS1 where that great a leap tbh. It was the flood of great games I enjoyed more than the visuals.

Ridge racer was light years ahead of anything seen on a previous console. The glossy shots they had of it in the magazines of the time, you'd have been hard pressed to tell it apart from the arcade version.

The wow of the original ps1 blew anything previously away based on that alone. I had the 3do, the 32x was a busted flush from the off, and ofcourse the jag:)

Sony hammerd that launch in the perfect time to strike. All the above were concept/niche, sony came alone and deliverd a mainstream consumer console, finaly upping on the snes/gen.

All about the games, fresh new, perfect marketing for the 90's.

My problem is I got into pc gaming and now the consoles, as good as they are, arnt even as good as my pc. Tbh I want a new genre of game or something entirely new as the same game with better graphics isn't quite doing it for me anymore

My older brother was the one that brought a ps1 into our house at the time he was around 21-22 , far from a kid and i remember playing resident evil with him and both of us getting freaked out and blown away by game. hes nearly 40 now and still an avid gamer and says the same thing. Nothing was as revolutionary and mind blowinly good.

Ridge racer was another gem, like playing an arcade in your house for the 1st time! Totally bonkers at the time.

With all these slight increases in resolutions and graphics, you don't get the wow factor. I feel like the next step up from a ps2 or xbox should genuinely be like a ps4 or xbox one. That would be pretty incredible to see that leap in one go. I feel like we are spoilt with all these constant small steps id much rather they held onto the new tech and worked on the games behind the scenes before the big reveal, Maybe thats just me though im kind of an extremest like that.

N64 and Mario was THE leap. I remember queuing for it on release day in toys r us then taking home to play on a 14" CRT :D

3DO was the wow moment for me, the original Need For Speed where you could do as you like in a car, first proper crashes and sounds.

OoT, goldeneye and mario 64 were staple games to any gamers collection! i was so into my 64, i also got the expansion block that made the graphics sharper in games like perfect dark! (another awesome game)

I hear that. Nothing, not even the snes, or my first proper 3d card (Voodoo ftw) compared to Mario 64. It was stunning and is still arguably the best game of its type.
