Will We Start Seeing 1080 Prices Getting Sensible Again Soon..?

yeah I doubt GPU's will come down before late august/sept...

They will come down when rates further improve and actually stabilise, they could just as easily go up further if rate dropped to say 1.20 by then, it can go either way.

If you don't like how the DON's moderate the forums, the solution is simple, do not post here. :)

Spot on. Mods do a great job and are very lenient.

This is why I hate politics in the GPU section. I have some very strong political views but we can't even agree on red or green, so how the hell are we going to agree on more important matters.

wasn't it red and blue?

I'm so glad I secured orders elsewhere for the Zotac GTX 1070 Amp Extreme for £390 and Zotac GTX 1080 Amp Extreme for £575.

Current prices are insane but expected due to weak pound post-Brexit and supply / demand.

My dilemma is which one to keep! The 1070 is to be delivered in a few days.

appreciate the honesty gibbo regarding supply and demand, thanks for confirming.

I now also understand why ocuk prices are fiddled with a lot, a large corp like the rainforest can perhaps afford to make losses on less frequent price adjustments to match supplier cost, exchange rate etc. Because they sell all sorts of stuff which can subsidise easier, whilst ocuk been a pc parts specialist has to be more vigilant.

Very unlikely. Its mostly the £ to $ behind this and so long as the £ is down it will continue. Its unlikely the £ will do anything but continue to fall unless the political or economic conditions change substantially (like Brexit is cancelled). If the predictions are right expect to see sub $1.20 to the £ by the end of the year and maybe parity in the 2-3 years. The prices now will only get worse.

This just isn't True. Like I said elsewhere. I can buy a 1080 in the states for LESS dollars than it is here in pounds. That would mean for this to be brexit/exchange rate fault then the pound would be worth less than the dollar. Which it isn't even close to being. Sorry but this is because people are still willing to buy them at this inflated price so why drop it? Stop buying them and the price will come down.

I fail to understand how this can be blamed on exchange rates. (Currently 1.31) ...

It's pure supply and demand. If OCUK are selling them fast they will increase the price. If they are selling them steadily they will hold the price. And if they aren't selling them then they will drop the price.
Do I blame them? Of course not, they are a business and that's how it works. I only blame each other for paying inflated prices.

So why not just remove the item from the store temporarily or disable any orders on it?

It doesn't look great when you suddenly hike the price so high like this. Business is business and all but what is happening and what you say doesn't match.

Gibbo is being pretty darn honest here and gets a lot of kudos for that.

Honestly, if someone is prepared to pay a price that you've set deliberately high to put people off buying, are you going to refuse to take their money?

Gibbo said "SEO", but seriously, if somebody wants to pay you 200% of the market rate for something, are you going to say "sorry, I can't take your money."

It might not just be people ignorant of pricing either. It might be people who want this item and are prepared to pay whatever it takes to acquire it.

Heck, I wouldn't expect Gibbo to stop taking orders if he can get stupid money on a small number of sales.

Because now GBP/USD is ~1.3 after you add VAT and shipping costs were are pretty much/nearly at parity with USD prices. Sure there is a bit of gouging going on there but there would be if the rate was lower as well.

????

And you still have to add tax on that US price.
Shipping costs? for real? A 40ft container from the states is £1000. How many GPUs can you fit in a shipping container? 200,000?? So, about 10p per GPU.

Come on mate. don't be daft.

The price is the price it is because people in the UK have been tested with a certain price. And they bought it. Literally. So why lower it? If I was in this business I would keep prices high whilst people still bought items. You would be mad not to. The only people to blame are those paying these prices.

OCUK are doing some gouging yes - don't like it, shop elsewhere. However, the prices are generally high everywhere because of the exchange rate.

When the 900 series released GBP/USD was 1.6. Now it is ~1.3 so there is a 20%+ increase in prices (compared to the launch prices of the last gen) just from that.

That is the unfortunate reality of the situation.

Also, that link you posted of the American price looks like a special offer/deal. We have had those here for the 1000 series as well on some this week only or day offers. Elsewhere on a another popular American retailer that card is listed as $709.00

rather than bashing your heads against a wall best just to hold off until pricing is reasonable.

thats what i do.

if its right i buy if its not i dont.

1070s are starting at £350 now.some places been doing the top end 1070s for just over that.so we should see some falling of prices.

christmas coming and best sales period of the year will be interesting to see if they keep as they are and just sell for people with the extra money.or drop to get a load shifted in the busy period.

jan could be a good time for bargins.as the crappy period for sales starts.:p
