As per the title really, or will you just use the low res free version?

I'm really confused as to why anyone would want to pay for a benchmark when there are so many good, free ones around. They're even built into games these days (I don't remember that being common place some years ago).

I'm interested in whether there is still a market for payed benchmarks? Thoughts? Maybe a poll would be worthwhile?

hi

i dont pay for benchmarks either . years ago you would get quite a lot with your 3dmarks . you could change res and the amount of tests and get a demo . but each subsequent revision of 3d mark you get less and less untill with vantage i believe you only get one run for free .

Will just use the basic version till a certain 'key' finds its way around...just like vantage.

Can't really justify paying that much for it when it's something you only really use once.

Everyone compares results based on the free version anyway, so I don't see the point in buying it unless you want to run custom tests, which then makes your results incomparable.

Well the free version only runs at 720p so I don't really see the point in comparing the systems that most of us are running now, at that res.

Nice to see the crimbo smileys. :D

720p is a bit low considering its the "performance" setting. God knows how low the res is on basic setting.

All I can think is that the graphics are so demanding on performance that you only need 720p res otherwise it will become a cpu benchmark.

Such a low res means one thing, they want you to put up the readies to run it at a decent res. I don't care how demanding the bench is, 720p is pathetic for todays cards.

Will never pay for any benchmark software.

Noo, all the high scores are used using the default settings anyway... thats what all a basic user needs.

I can understand if you are a company and have an overclocking tournament or something but not for the general user.
