The opponents have stepped up. The problem is that Federer is the best tennis player of all time. This means that most players just can't handle him. They play well (for their own level), but they get beat.

The one time 1 man stepped up his game and outplayed Federer was last year, which earned Nadal the French and Wimbledon Slams, along with the coveted World No.1 ranking.

For all his exertions, Nadal is now paying the penalty with tendonitis in his knee. But thats what it takes to beat Federer - you have to push yourself to breaking point.

I think spectators don't quite realise just how difficult it is to play against Federer. The greatest compliment you can recieve as a player is when your opponent acknowledges that you are the greatest of all time and so many of the current crop of players have stated that Federer is the best ever.

When Federer was asked who he'd like to play in the final it seemed to me he was favouring Roddick as he mentioned the record he has against him.

To be honest though I said at the start of the tournament Fed would win it but I would gladly be wrong if Murray did

Set Murray.

Upped his level when he needed to in that set and just did enough. Still think he's got another gear if he needs it.
