Wimpy burger

hmm the only wimpy i have ever eaten at was in a megabowl and it was absolutely awful, i never realised they had such a good reputation :s i thought they were the netto of the fast food world

Those ones unfortunately have the aids virus, you need to go into a proper one with china plates etc and get a half pounder & chips :)

wow the last time I had them was 10 years ago! Was before I even started year 8

anyone dined at Harvester before? I haven't seen them around ever since the one down my road was closed off. they are like T.G.I Fridays except it's English, if I'm not mistaken

Wonder how they actually keep those shops up, if majority of them went out of business already

Does anyone remember Taco Bell franchises in UK? The food was heavens better than that in US Taco Bells, the one on Earls Court was absolutely legendary for a simple mexican takeaway. Then one week, *poof* and they were gone....

I remember going to the Wimpy in Cirencester as a kid with my parents and my sister. Must have been back in '85. Can't really remember much about it, apart from the Mr Wimpy character, but I kinda have fond memories... maybe it's just nostalgia.

I have similar feelings towards Little Chef restaurants... not cause I remember what the food was like, but simply because it reminds me of my childhood.

Oh dear, I'm gonna get a bit emotional now... and I've been drinking too.

That is odd - the actual site is http://www.wimpy.uk.com/

Interesting history - named after Wimpy from the Popeye cartoons, run by Lyons (as in "- Corner House"), bought out by United Biscuits in the 70s, then began losing trade to McDonalds, heralding the era of the nasty "counter service" Wimpys. Grand Metropolitan (now Diageo) were next to buy them and several of them got changed into Burger Kings. After various outher wheelings and dealings, including two management buy-outs, they were finally nabbed by Famous Brands who own Wimpy South Africa - and it seems like they're modernising them and keeping the good ol' table-service ethos.

As to whether Wimpys are as good as other fast food places, well, it's a franchise - they're infinitely variable. I generaly love their quarter-pounders though - the incredible amount of grease in the half-pounders really puts me off!

There were loads in my area - Northwood Hills, Eascote, South Harrow, Rayners Lane - every little village had one. I think they're all still going, too.
