may sound stupid but is there a way to get windows 10 an not pay a fortune, i still have windows 7 and feel like i have to upgrade now.

is there a software site like cd keys etc that offers service in which i can upgrade for less than going on the windows website direct

as you can tell Im not sure how all this works...

The windows 7 license key will be able to activate the respective version of windows 10 so you wouldn't need to pay anything to move on to windows 10.

If you don't mind certain restrictions like some options not being available and having a watermark on the screen all the time then you can just install it without entering a product key as there are no time limits on windows 10 like there are on the older versions.

Windows 7 key will still work to activate Windows 10 as I done so this morning.

Download the MS Media Creation tool and gve it a try

You will need to click on download tool now button and it will download mediacreationtool1809.exe then you can create windows 10 1809 iso or usb to install Windows 10 and activate it with your Windows 7 key.

No you don't need to uninstalled Windows 7, you will need to select Keep personal files and settings in Windows 10 setup to perform upgrade installation over Windows 7.
