win 2000 - find out admin password

Is it possible to discover the built in admin account password from within win2000 itself?

Short Answer NO!

However it is possible to reset using a third party utility, however I am not sure of Overclockers rules on this, so cant be giving you a link sorry!

I have had a look through the rules and there is nothing on there about this. Just the usual stuff about how to maintain your account, no promotion of individual companies, etc.

All i want to do is defrag my laptop!

You can post links to tools that will reset the password (Ultimate Boot CD I assume), but I don't want to see actual cracking tools.

To be honest I don't want to reset the password, just want to know the password so I can log on and defrag the hd.

Don't really want to be messing about with the password set up by IT cos i know its there for a reason.

As otacon says, the UBCD is probably your best bet.

Otacon: by cracking utils I take it you mean the likes of linux boot disks etc?

Anything that could be used to decrypt and display the password.

And I'm afraid we certainly wont allow you to use the forums to gain admin access to a laptop that isn't yours, even if you are authorised to use it.
