I have tried 6 different copies of Home Premium ISO files, with or without SP1 and not one of them will install. I keep getting a pop telling me a device driver is missing. I have a copy of Win 7 Ultimate(ISO) which I have no problem with, but if I change the ei.cfg to Home Premium I get the same result. Even a file with the ability to select different versions of windows, results with the pop appearing.
Now, as I don`t use HP it is not a problem for me but I am trying to install HP for someone else who does`nt have a disc.
Anyone know why this should happen, only with HP.
I have tried a few tools to change the ie but everything I do, I still cannot get HP to install.

Are you installing from DVD or Flash drive?

I had the same exact problem last week and I was using a flash drive and got the error you are experiencing however when I used the DVD it worked fine.

It's not a Sony Vaio by any chance?

USB stick. And no it`s not Sony, it is a new build.

Copies came from mydigitallife and a couple of other sources. As I said Ultimate versions work but HP does`nt. I have even tried French and Spanish copies. So I could except 1 or 2 copies being corrupt, but not every single one of them.

Burn the ISO to DVD and try that. I usually use a multi version USB Flash installer but last week I was forced to use a DVD.

Sounds similar to a problem I had recently, it turned out that my BIOS was set to raid, so changed it to AHCI and all was well after that, may help? :)

I have tried all copies on my system and I can assure you AHCI is set in my bios and the system I was building.

What happens if you change from AHCI to IDE..? not that you should have to but just curious.

Also are any of the copies actually HP or are you just editing the cfg file to allow that version to install..?
(or are you just editing the cfg file on your Ultimate version to test that, which I think is what you have done)

Did you also try a ISO (disc) version, as noted above...?

Yes, some were HP with or without SP1.

Sorted. Found this copy of Win 7 HP X64 with SP1, that will actually install via USB.

Good :)

FWIW I have had some issues with ISO's which were then used to make a bootable stick, but I was never sure if it was the method used to create the stick, the ISO used or a combo of the two. That is why it was a good idea of Swordfish to try a disc, providing the PC has an optical drive.

Thanks for posting the link also, I'll grab that one - does it have SP integrated...? :)

This is the one I used (x64)...

Know what you mean, I have a few win7 discs I burned a while ago, sometimes it`s hit or miss if they work. So, will keep the HP ISO for future use, along with my Ultimate copy.
Just thought I would include the link for anyone else that may want a working copy
BTW, I use WIN7 USB/DVD TOOL to mount the ISO to my stick.

Albeit it was a while ago since I last created a USB install I used...

http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/120444-how-to-install-windows-from-usb-winsetupfromusb-with-gui/

WinSetupFromUSB with GUI

For Vista / 7 / 8 this is the best method for creating a bootalbe USB

http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-install-windows-7vista-from-usb-drive-detailed-100-working-guide/

It does involve using the DISKPART command but it is so simple and loads up without any form menu system. Straight into an install as if it were a DVD.

sounds like you are booting it from a USB3 port.....good luck with that. USB2 or DVD for you :)

I was booting from the USB2 port on the back of the mobo, on the new build.
But you can boot using USB3 if you are doing an install on a new ssd/hdd on an existing build or just reformat. I tested the new HP iso on USB3 and have burned it to disc, both work. So hopefully now the guy with the new build can get it up and running, as soon as I post it.
