Win 7 SP1 gets dated?

Even a VLK version to OEM?

i must admit i can't say for sure. but there is no difference between OEM and retail. i have an OEM laptop and have used retail disks to install and activate just fine. i doubt they went to the effort of making the VLK disk special in anyway.

Just got the VLK edition from the VLSC so will update if it works. Sounds like I may need to unlock it, the ei.cfg file says the following;

[EditionID]
Professional
[Channel]
OEM
[VL]
1

Will rip the ei.cfg file out and see what happenes, god loves people that try.

im still confused why sp1 wont install. i have not done any modding or added any themes/hacks to my pc, its peeded me off with the MS's answer 'reinstall'

ok cheers mate, missed that... it still sucks i need to reinstall :(

I originally had the same problem as you and found out if you use a windows tools such as Driver Sweeper or Driver Cleaner.NET to remove old drivers from your system
then you might not be able to install SP1 as i`m sure SP1 sees some of these drivers and their registry entries etc as missing components.

I think SP1 looks for certain drivers that were originally installed with the windows 7 installation and even though you have updated your drivers, old drivers and remaining
parts of old drivers must get left behind and using a driver cleaner removes all traces of a paticler driver will also remove traces of old ones too.

I hope everyone understands what i`m getting at.

I n the end, I also had to reinstall my windows 7 to be able to install SP1 successfully

You don't need to reinstall. Boot in to windows put your OS dvd in then click install
then it will tell you what programs may not work after. If you want to carry on click UPGRADE not Advanced.
Pick the OS version you are using and it will replace the windows files.

This will keep all your programs and files intact. It may take a long time(depends on how much stuff you got installed)

Then you reactivate windows 7 then run SP1.

Just ripped the ei.cfg this morning, booted now into Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 fresh install. Great so far.

_Jimlad_ why don't you just get the MSDN version over at MDLF, rip out the ei.cfg to release all versions retail + oem.
