Okay seen this asked in a few threads but with no answers so thought i would start a new thread to save messing up the others.

The £25 upgrade does that mean that i need to keep my old os and key for the next few years if i ever have to do a clean install (hard drive goes or motherboard gets a fault so new install)

Thanks

Why show me an answer to my question i have read the half dozen posts on the first page and there are no answers to this question

Slide from the right... settings... pc settings.. general tab.. scroll down...

choose 'remove everything and reinstall windows' as long as you dont use disk cleanup to delete the install files for windows 8 you can do a full reinstall from the above option.

don,t want to sound thick ? but why not when it asks the 3 options click the 3rd one "nothing" do a clean install then at the upgrade start ? maybe i,m wrong someone will correct me :)

I just spoke to someone on the live help on the Microsoft website. They told me that if I purchased the Windows 8 Pro version for £24.99 I would have to install Windows 7 first every time I wanted to do a fresh clean Windows install.

I just completed the pro upgrade this morning from preview version. I had no underlying windows version and no underlying license key. Upgraded to full and created the install on a bootable flash drive for the stated 24.99

if you upgrade, go to settings by hovering to the right.change pc settings then general. at the bottom of the list you can choose to fresh install.
worked a charm for me after i had issues

No problem, use a USB drive and you can install win 7 followed by win 8 within an hour.

other people are reporting you can install pro without a previous install. no need for previous versions.

This lol. Just ran the upgrade from the desktop as part of the upgrade assistant. From beta preview version :D hahaha

Did they give you a full activation code for future installs?

Yes I have a full activation of pro. And a full license code, and free media centre. Also had the option to be sent the dvd for 12.99 but created flash drive instead

if i install windows 8 pro now can i fit new mobo cpu and then boot into windows and do fresh install ?

I have Intel rapid storage technology on my PC and it always goes wrong when I have to reload windows, will this copy allow me to undertake a fresh install from a clean HD to Windows 8, or will I have to always load Win 7 then upgrade to 8 in the future?

im wanting to do this but as explained im on w7 oem

tomorrow will be swopping motherboard and cpu so was going to upgrade to w8 today then install new stuff tomorrow

but what has me confused is

if i need to do w7 again cause my copy was oem this wont activate to do my w8 pro clean install  cause of new parts.

or can i just install w8 now before components added then leave old install on and do clean install in windows :p
