The way it works, when you run the initial upgrade tool it ties in your existing product key with the new one.
Even if you have wiped clean, it will allow a fresh install and then in turn knows you previously owned W7 when it validates / activates your new Win 8 key.
The only time I can see there being an issue is when it comes to buying a new PC or motherboard, don't be surprised to see the activation fail or require a phone call.
