Win 95 / 98 games and Windows 7 ?

So I booted the virtual xp mode up and had a look at the gpu and found it is the following http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S3_Trio (32/64) it will only do 2d not 3d stuff and the sound card is a soundblaster 16 or AWE32.

To be honest I wouldn't bother with it, some of the other suggestions people have made sound better.

Why do Microsoft bother with compatibility mode when most of the time it doesn't even work?

It's not for consumers, it's for businesses, so that they can continue legacy business software that wouldn't run otherwise.

VMware Player or VirtualBox are both worth a try. VMware is the more mature one for gaming on, and is the easiest to setup.
