Win 98 and domains

Actually, you can log on to a domain with Windows 98 but the domain must be configured with a WINS server as it only supports NetBIOS.

Also if I remember correctly you need to install some extra application on the Windows 98 machine. I think this was for NT domains, not sure if 98 can/are allowed to connect to 2000 or newer domains.

Check this, but I think Win98 can only be authenticated by the domain controller running the 'PDC emulator' FMSO role. This could cause problems with a large number of win 98 clients.

Also I doubt you could use group policy on the 98 machines. Give us a little more info about what you're trying to achieve.

Server 2003 (IIRC) introduced SMB signing which "breaks" the ability of 9x to authenticate against AD. It's a simple change in Group Policy to turn it off though.
