Win a chance of attending an exclusive XCOM 2 pre-release event in Windsor!

huzzahhh for once in my lifetime I won something :D
Took more than 39 years for heaven sake. Time to win the Euromillions tonight :D

Yessss! Thank you so much! I think that's the first thing I've won since winning a Mickey mouse alarm clock at pass the parcel when I was 8. Which was a long time ago.

I know the feeling :D

Looks like we are going to put our hands on the game also :D

5ub! Panos! Do either of you know what time the event finishes? Trains back to Leeds after 9.30pm are over 10 hrs journey ;_;

Booked a hotel nearby and getting the Saturday noon (12pm) train to Retford, because I had no idea when the event ends, while didn't want to rush trying to catch the last train or lose the end of the event :)

Afterall you never know with those events, might drag a bit longer.
Even if that is just beers on a pub :D

I would like to say thanks to Steve and OCUK for the opportunity given to me, and the gifts (need to find what to do with 1 sqm mouse matt). And Greenman gaming, for the organisation of the event, and all the other happenings in there.

As for the game, nothing less expected than ASWESOME. If anyone thought XCOM Enemy Within is as good as it gets, you are mistaken.
Firaxis kept the good parts, re-engineering the not so good parts, and added tonnes of new features.
Highlights of these, procedural map generator, a lot of random stuff happening (even on research), pretty brutal AI on Commander and higher difficulty. And by that I mean intelligent, and not strong but predicted. Failed 4 times to pass the second mission (3rd if you include tutorial) and I believe everyone else around faced with the same kick on their rears.....

And lets not forget Steam Works support and that the Long War mod team, was issued to create 3 mods for the launch day. (and around 50GB worth of mods will be waiting us next Friday apparently)

Thank you :)

I went along to the event too, and I have to say last night was epic, we went to the secret 2K bunker!

The guys from 2K and Green Man Gaming were there, and they gave us a short presentation on XCOM 2 on what is new!

Before the presentation started everyone was talking about XCOM and games in general, with a lot of chatting and introducing. Panos and implosiveturnip were both there ready to get stuck in the new game! :)

Especially when we were in the room for a while and XCOM 2 was just waiting to be played!

But it is okay, as we had a free bar right next to the gaming setup!

And here is LT Zonda playing XCOM 2.

My personal opinion on the game... I cannot compare to the previous games as I will be honest, I've never played a single XCOM game before! - When playing the tutorial, it got me hooked straight away, it was easy to understand, easy to just get stuck in and be immersed with the graphics and the game-play. I found it extremely fun, and I can see this game being incredibly successful. It is definitely worth buying when it comes out!

Of course, the events never end without the OcUK freebies!

Do you know the names of the youtubers that were there or any way to find out? Some of them were recording to publish the videos

Glad you enjoyed yourselves (not jealous at all)

How did it compare to the previous version control wise? Easy to get into? Difficulty? Better AI?

Also, what were the 2K set ups like?

If by setup you mean machines, those were provited by the venue/building.
The monitor was actually 29 LG TV 720p.

Game. I was playing on commander difficulty (one bellow max) and got hammered by the aliens.
If they cannot flank you, they withdraw and hide behind their allies you haven't see yet.
Sectoid is very strong and if you cannot kill it outright when is activated you are stuffed.

The campaign mode now is not linear. You have to pick if you going to do a mission and prioritise building and research around your play style. Also according to the 2K guy, research produses rabdom results. Eg you put on research the grenades and you have random chance to get one of the numerous different types.

I loved it. They took the best of XCOM Enemy within and made a better game.
