Win XP connection problem

Hi

I have an old Dell Dimension 4600 Running Win XP service pack2, unused for a period of time, Have it all up and running but am having a problem connecting to the Net. ISP is BT infinity network connection is showing as connected on the network connections tab.

When I try to connect to any web address, it seems to initially say it's looking for the page, progress bar confirms it's looking but then I get

"The page cannot be displayed"

Cannot find server or DNS error.

any help would be appreciated as I'm lost.

have just tried to access ipconfig all it does is flash up on the screen and then disappear, one thing, I have just tried Google chrome initially it wouldn't work but it did tell my why, the system clock and date was set incorrectly, have reset it and Chrome now works but Internet explorer still doesn't.

is there any point me carrying on trying to update the drivers etc on SP2 or is this system to antiquated to even bother with?

Ethernet and will try downloading SP3 now, will report back if I'm successful.

Thanks Bledd beginners mistake. I'm backing up the system first off, got another 5 hours left, I think this might be a bit of a project for me just out of interest to see how well it will run if at all. Will re do the cmd/ipconfig as soon as it completes the back up.
