Win XP Key

I've got the full version of windows xp, all above board on my computer that I purchased many moons ago.

I can't find the box which contains the disk/ cd key.

Any ideas how I can find my Windows XP cd key off my system?

You'll have to use a util like the one above. The key isn't stored in the registry in plain text.

You can open the registry editor by typing 'regedit' in the run box on the start menu.

It's all numeric though.

I know for a fact that my cd key had letters in it!

No! The product ID is not the CD key and you won't be able to use it to install Windows. Like people have said, the CD Key isn't stored in the registry in a way you can read it, the only practical way of getting is with a utility that can display it.

Just tried that tool and it's not my cd key. It's obviously just a key gen.

Reason for knowing...............I can remember some of it

It does find a valid cd-key, but not my xp one.

It displays my Office 03 key!

I've never seen it fail on WinXP. Are you running some funny nLited install (and even then I couldn't understand it)?

It's a full copy of xp pro.

There'll be tabs at the top for different product cd keys.
