Back story: my neighbours system (purchased from ocuk last december) has been randomly bsod since purchase. The hard drive was replaced 3 times and was thought to have cured the issue but my neighbour is still experiencing frequent bsod mainly when surfing the net :( .....i'm going round this week to check for updates for all drivers and run all the tests: memory hard drive etc but ultimately i think we are going to send the system back under warranty.

My question is that i want to backup my neighbours data using the w7 built-in utility

1. will it back-up ok on a system with bsod issues?
2. how easy is it to use the back-up on the repaired system
3. if the system is replaced i.e mobo will there be issues using the back-up data
4. as per 3 will there be issues using the existing oem w7 ?

thanks for any help on this.

Does the system have a Western Digital Hard Drive installed? If not do you have access to a Western Digital External Drive? http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119&wdc_lang=en

Failing that i would use Clonezilla : http://clonezilla.sourceforge.net/

thanks for reply, yes we have access to a brand new western digital external hard drive which was purchased for the back up...

question - there are quite a few features in the acronis software - which one would be best to use for creating a cloned image and transfering to a new system.

how easy is it to move the cloned image onto a replacement system drive i.e onto say a samsung drive?

Probably a memory or mobo issue if bsod while surfing on seven.

i'm also thinking it's hardware related. the system has bsod since delivery and despite 3 hard drive replacements.

what is the situation regarding the copy of oem w7 (also purchased from overclockers) if the mobo is replaced?
