Win7 Install/Uninstall loop

I have been trying to install a driver for my Roland TD-15 electric drum kit but it's stuck in an install/uninstall loop.

Every time I use the installer, it wants me to uninstall as a problem has occurred. This is of course without the drum kit plugged in. After I uninstall, restart and run installer again it just says a problem has occurred.

I then checked the file repository and all the Roland driver files are sitting there. I used Windows Driver Storer Explorer (Rapr.exe) but it didn't have the Roland driver when enumerating. I then tried adding the driver but it stated the .inf file didn't feature an install.

I then tried to get permission to manually delete the folder but it won't let me and I can't change the permissions to allow me as an admin to edit the System32 folder.

I'm stumped now.

go into safe mode and delete

run ccleaner and clean reg after delete in step one

reboot

install drivers with out hardware installed

no faq either for the td 15, seems to be missing, in 8 drivers are flakey as well, seems to be loads with error, or seem to find loads, none found for td15 so far

seems it also doesn't like being installed in a 3.0 port either, so has to be 2.0 only

I tried deleting in safe mode but it's the same problem.

The files are in: C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

You need permission to delete anything there. I tried going into the folders security settings and giving myself as an admin permission but it stated access is denied.

I did all this without inserting the USB cable for the TD-15 module, so I don't think it's a USB compatibility issue.

This is beyond annoying. I've already contacted Roland support and left a message in their forum but OCUK seems to be the only place on top of their game.

seem you need to make a new account with admin permissions or at least get access to the one you have, strange it's not letting you.

Thanks zakblood, I looked around some more with UAC and even though I had it disabled the articles you provided helped me do a more thorough check with the privileges I had set.

What I had to do was go to the ownership settings of the folder. Once I changed it to my profile it was easy to delete the folder.

Once I did this, the driver now installs properly and isn't stuck in a loop.

Thank you so much.

On a side note the error probably came from the fact that I was using a USB extender. Looks like I will have to buy a longer USB cable.

now if you had said that at the start, loads of things dont work so well with them, no idea why either, i had no end of trouble until i bought a dirt cheap one in blue, cheap as hell and the only one thats seems to work well for me, paid 4 times more for a branded one and it was crap, didn't work on my external equipment at all.

extenders always seem to give errors with some equipment, or some do anyway, no reasons for it either, as all should work, speed is the same as long as you get the right ones, ive got usb 1 / 2 and 3 cables, white , yellow and now blue, got some grey ones as well so not colour coded either :(

glad its sorted
