win7 printer problem

I've installed win7 (64bit) on my PC and have found that it will not recognize my printer - a Canon Pixma iP4000 .... the list of Canon printers include the iP3500 and ip4300 etc but not the iP4000.

The Canon support site points be to a "printer driver add-on module" when I ask for drivers for iP4000 and win7 but this made no change + email to Canon support got a reply that the printer is supported in win7m + the readme in the driver add-on module specifically mentions iP4000 as supported thouhg after installing it I can't see any of the printers it mentions in the list of printer options in win7.

Anyone any ideas what to do?

N.b. the printer does "work" if I use the iP4300 driver ... but after printing a couple of photos I think there's some colour issue (from the specs looks like all the printers like the 4300 use different ink from the 4000 which is probably the cause o fthis)

Of course, as soon as I post a question here my next google search takes me to a page I hadn't found before which gave me the solution.

Fixed by adding a new local printer, specifying the virtual USB port as its connection then on the driver selection page clicking the "windows update" button so that it goes off to find more drivers (takes a minute or two) and hey presto the iP4000 is now in the list.
