Okay so I'm having a problem where by after some time if I right click on desktop or try to open a file, folder and especially Windows updater an error will occur.

The error being "Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working".

Its only recently started to do this and I'm not sure if it was because of the Windows updates i got, i tried a system restore to 5 days ago and its still playing up. I dont even do anything and it will just randomly Pop up with the error, the only choice you get is to either Restart Windows Explorer Or Check for a Solution and restart the program. Which of course doesn't fix the problem and it just repeats until you restart the computer and then after some amount of time it will happen to you again.

I'm pretty sure its to do with the Windows Updater.

Anyone know how i can fix this? Because its becoming a real pain in the butt.

Help Highly appreciated, Thanks.

I'm still running RC version7100 and it's now started happening for me as well.

But I'm having major problems since installing Firefox 3.5. Have you guys recently installed or updated firefox?

Im the same as well so think it may have in Windows 7 itself like corrupt or file may have using old one - when I click the right button and it came up and I checked as one file is ntdll.dll that may have bug -- maybe update latest Windows to fix the problems. Im still trying to find what it cause - either Windows OS itself or graphic card/motherboard drivers, mouse driver which are all older version before W7 release - maybe latest date for new driver fix the problem -find out when it come out.

Yea i did actually, might uninstall it and see if that works.

For me its only just recently occurred and in the last week or so, in that time I've installed Windows updates, updated firefox & updated iTunes. I got rid of iTunes last night so ill see if that changes anything and ill also get rid of firefox to see if anything changes.

Thanks Ysmalari, I'm trying the second method as i didn't have anything apart from the default key in the first method.

Is everyone with this problem running 64bit Win 7 Pro by any chance? just wondered if it was a problem with the Pro and not the others. This is Because my friend has 64bit Win 7 Home and has no problems what so ever.

Yep, I'm on Pro as well...

Interestingly my PC only started doing it after the IE8 update that came through a few days ago, did you do the update too Skellz?

I also get this problem, am running W7 Ultimate and more then convinced it's a right-click context menu problem as it always occurs for me when right-clicking or simply clicking on a folder.

thanks i try this tonight and see if it ok - seem to be temp until MS fix the problems and then update when it ready - look like it Windows 7 itself with some bug in some files, anyway I try it after teatime

it still didnt work and didnt stop the error message so think there may numbers of bug in dll files which is one of ntdll.dll and other file with dll that still in bugs - I think there may more than 5 bugs in this files so hope Microsoft fix the problems and check for any update for hotfix or anything else to replace the ntdll.dll files included others. I looked up the date of release in this files was between July to Sept so that may have cause numbers of bugs, it same in Vista SP2 few months ago and it already been fixed with updated patched.

For me in Event Viewer is showing the faulting module as my X FI Soundblaster Driver... CTMLFX32.dll

Well I did do a update through Windows Update center a few days ago that was to do with Internet Explorer (It was the Latest update so I naturally installed it lol). I'm pretty sure that after i done it the problem started occurring, so I'm guessing it could be that. I did try and go back to a restore point like i said but it never did anything to stop the problem.

Yea, I get it very Often after I've been to update center/Folders & then I try right click on desktop or anything and it will come up with the error.

Do you think MS would fix this problem by release Service Pack 1 which due in Q3/Q4 2010 or before SP1 and some hotfix patch to fix the Explorer.exe error crashing? MS still working on Service Pack 1 to fix the bugs and some update

I have W7 HP and this happens to me as well. Not only does this happen, but when I am watching something on VLC, I can't access other parts of the O/S, such as Device Manager?!

What is the cause of this?

*Edit*

Not sure if it's important, but I am also using FF 3.5

Sometime when you install an application it adds a shotcut onto the right-click menu. More often than not it's one of these, possibly incompatible, that causes explorer to crash. There's an application that can remove some of these. Can't remember what it's called though, ill have a look.

This is what I said above and what I also believe. If you can remember the app that would be handy :)
