What are your views on the speed of Win8 compared to Win7 ?

Slower, the same or faster ?

For me (Win 8 Pro 64bit) it seems a lot slower, things like Photoshop to Ccleaner just seem to take longer, than in the old days.

Can't make a fair comparison because I built a new PC at the same time, don't have any complaints in general usage.

Installation is MASSIVELY quicker - not much longer than my old work laptop used to take to boot up and be usable! - and boot up time improved as well.

Mostly faster. One thing that certainly is, web browsing.

I thought file copying to USB was definitely more refined and faster.

I've gone back to Windows 7 for the time being, but soon as SP1 comes out I will return.

Format / Install is so damn quick it's not much of an issue to switch.

I was getting a lot of registry handle leaks in event viewer cropping up, turns out it was simply because they were use to a more timely shut down (being Win 7 apps) and Windows 8 pretty much uses brute force to flush and reboot.

FIFA 13 didn't work too well in it (especially online play) but it all boils down to drivers.

It's going to be one hell of an OS in six months time or so.

So far so good. Seems like Win7 in a tutu. Some hardware I didn't expect to work just worked straight from the off (Belkin n52te, M Audio Oxygen 8, Creative usb headset, creative x-fi). Still yet to install Massive, Absynth and a bunch of other crap so plenty of time for it all to go the way of the pear.

I don't notice much difference in terms of speed coming from Windows 7 64. I use an M4 SSD for the OS and an overclocked 3570k with 8GB of RAM and so W7 was not slow at all, but neither is W8.
They seem about on par to me with the odd exception of an occasional app taking longer to launch in W8, but maybe that is just how it seems.? It surprises me that I have noted that but I have and so it must be happening.

I did a fresh install of Win 8 64 bit pro btw and not an upgrade.

I find it a lot faster and snappy when opening files and the internet is slightly faster :) also the browser is faster opening too .So overall i,d say faster in most areas :)

Faster startup I boot now 15-20 seconds 2TB hard-drive with SSD caching. Shutdown even faster about 10 seconds.
Apps and browser open much faster, also I noticed un-installing apps is a lot faster.
Games for me perform the same not noticed any change there.

The only issue I have with it now is how long nod32 takes to load when I goto the desktop.

same here, for some reason kaspersky is the last app to load !!! also i have no clue what kaspersky out of the blue decides to block internet access to some important apps like opera, win mail....etc i have to restart kaspersky for them to work again !!
