Back in the days when I had an 800Mhz Laptop with 256Mb I had to use WinAmp to cast to a SHOUTCast server, and hated using the program, it was clunky and very difficult to read. And more than anything, I had to physically click 'Stop' and THEN close the program, or my system locked up. Needless to say, since that day I have been using Windows Media Player (don't laugh!)

But, I have got back into doing SHOUTCast Casting again and now I have a decent computer, and I needed to get my own casting software, downloaded and installed WinAmp and the SHOUTCast DSP Plug-in and found a decent skin, and I am really pleased with WinAmp. It has come a long way since I was last using it! What have I been missing!!!!

Winamp is great, apart from the non-random shuffle that stops working properly after a week of installing...:p

Pfft. If it works with 5.53 it should be OK with 5.531. You have got insurance on your PC yes? :p

Doesn't Winamp install Shoutcast for you if you so wish? I know I definitely would block that being installed as I don't need it.

I'm having a problem with shuffle and that if I skip a track, listen to one, the next track seems to be the artist I skipped. Almost like "oh you didn't like that song? Well what about this one by the same artist?"

It doesn't do it often but imo it's not random enough.

I love winamp though and I'm having a hard time finding a Linux alternative. I use the clearONE beta skin as it's the right size and docks and hides at the top of my screen. It's not polished off though and I can't find skin like it :(

winamp lite guys, it's the way forward :p

It was definitely VLC. I uninstalled it and everything worked fine.

you can un-select active-x/mozilla plugins when you install VLC, and you can also choose which associations you want it to have :)

I've never experienced your problem, but it might be because I don't just click yes to everything without looking when I install ;)

Good call. :)

I have tried VLC, but it mucked up my file associations in Firefox, so I got rid of VLC.

Don't bother with VLC...

I've got Winamp v5.531 for all my Music needs (with the mlipod.dll plugin for my iPod as its still better than the included winamp plugin)...

And MPC-HC v1.1.0.0 for everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) else!!..
