Hi. Why does my graphics run smoother in windowed borderless instead of normal full screen?. I have a asus vg278he monitor and a 970 Asus strix GTX. I have always ran in full screen and never thought once to run games in window boarderless but yesterday I tried and got more smother frames then full screen. Does it share more power from CPU as well as graphic card in borderless or what as I find this strange?.

I tend to run all my games in borderless windowed mode due to me using two monitors. However i don't know why this could be, usually if any game is going to run slower it would be because of the opposite, as having borderless windowed mode means other apps can function at the same time.

Does this happen in all games?

I've noticed this in dragon age inquisition, was getting slight stuttering and was messing around with all options to resolve, borderless window worked, no idea why though.

Not tried I just tried in GTA V but will try others today.

@ Currob. This is what ive been getting too slight stuttering and been trying everything until I decided to try window borderless and it improved.

Because in Windowed mode the Windows Aero compositor is controlling the buffering and vsync. Most games will be smoother like this but it will negatively affect responsiveness.

Doesn't window mode, reduce resolution = more performance and higher frame rate = smoother gameplay?

Not Borderless Window mode.

The only reason I can think of why framerates would be lower in fullscreen mode is if the GPU drivers were forcing some settings in the game.

Im the same as borderless full screen makes a 2nd screen bliss.I have noticed that often i get smoothe rgameplay experience at the same time compared to full screen.I think its the way the vysnc is applied that makes the difference.

Frametimes are almost always smoother compared to full screen with vysnc/framecap for the most part imo.

Have to use full screen windowed mode when using eyefinity at present, as my mouse cursor it'd appearing behind the game otherwise. No idea if the performance impact if any.

I believe it's because Windows Aero uses triple buffered v-sync which is then adopted by the game when playing in borderless window mode. The v-sync used by Windows is very good and well implemented unlike the ****** v-sync you find in a lot of games.
