Hi

I've just put my SSD in an Inateck enclosure. I have had to use a PCIe USB3.0 card as my motherboard is USB2.

The drivers are installed and the enclosure "on" is working but I can't see the SSD in windows explorer. Any ideas.

Thanks

I've just seen the disk under disk management but I can't initialize it. Comes up with I/O device error.

All my SATAs are used up at the moment (hence using the enclosure). Do you think disconnecting an HDD and attaching the SSD just to initialize it and then put it back in the enclosure.

Cheers

Hey there.

There shouldn't be an issue with initializing the SSD via the external enclosure. If the SSD works normally when connected with SATA cables, then I'd suggest that you try a different HDD/SSD with the enclosure, if possible. This way you'll find out if there's an issue with the external enclosure.

Hope that helps.

That's odd. Normally when I try HDDs/SSDs with external enclosures, docking stations, SATA to USB adapters, I don't have any issues with initializing, partitioning or formatting procedures. Perhaps it's a weird glitch of some sort with that enclosure.
The important thing is that you got everything up and running. Good job!
