Window replacements

That seems about on the money there Gilly, although i'd expect to pay that in rip off Oxfordshire...up north i would expect labour to be cheaper.

I've just run through an online checker. A rated windows and toughened glass all round comes to (including VAT, survey, installation and warranty) a grand total of:

£4,410.00

I guessed it should be about £4.5k! Third bedroom is a little more as apparently one of them needs to open out fully so that the emergency services can get in.

Who were they if you dont mind me asking? Have you had them fitted yet?

We are pricing all plastic windows at 200 to 250 sq m excluding any super specials.

Ask about cleaning hinges as they comply for building regs escape window and make it handy to clean from inside. Should be the same cost really but they might ask for a premium.

If you don't mind me asking what online checker did you use?

I think they cost us £2 extra. It just has a little metal tab you press down to move the sash to the side.

My next door neighbour got his done, 9 windows UPVC with window boards + labour etc
all for 2.4k, get some quotes in from local window fitters.

Find ones that are Fensca or Certass authorised (check with company they actually are certified and live) before signing on the dotted line this way you avoid headache and issues my neighbour found out the hard way since many claim to be but are not.

9-10k+ sounds excessive he had 4-5 guys quoting 3-4k for 9 windows including bay ones.

You can haggle with the bigger named companies and even stall and say no for 3 weeks they will keep calling you back quoting even less, hear some blokes got aglian to come down from 12k to 5k even.....

Guess its all about the haggling !

The calling the manager tactic makes me wanna puke. I went though it with my mother years ago, I told them a local firm at said 4.2k and that this guys 10k quote was ridiculous. He then phoned his manager and as a one time only deal matched the 4.2k.

I stewed over the whole disgusting sales tactics and made my mother cancel her cheque deposit and go with a local firm who were brilliant.

Safestyle are a vile company.

About 7 years ago now, But I got 11 hardwood MTM windows of various sizes from Wickes for about 6K and fitted them myself.

(I loathe plastic for all sorts of reasons)

No idea what the current pricing would be however, but the big companies really take the wee-wee.

(NEVER get a UPVC door! Every one I have seen more than 5 years old has cracks like a Comet! (Composite is a bit better, but even they can get quite tatty after a couple of years and there is little you can do about it. I prefer wood, you can always do something to tidy up wood))
