Windows 10 Anniversary Update

i tried again on my desktop and now i see a grey box around the picture only for a split second. i think it could be something to do with loading the picture.

yea ive spotted it now ive added a picture.
Glad others are seeing it too now. For some reason these sort of things jump out at me.

It seems to briefly display and fade the whole picture whilst performing the circle crop on screen.

yea if you log in using your Microsoft account then it would make both the same. when I set my PC up lastnight and logged into my account and set my desktop background it changed it on my tablet.

But I'm talking about the background picture when I boot up before I've even logged in

Anyone getting issues with screen refresh or drawing?
Getting it a lot where I open a window from an application and it is blank.
As I move the mouse cursor over the box it draws in the missing bits.

This is a Dell XPS 13 9350. All Windows and Dell updates installed.

Nobody seems to have either noticed or posted about it yet, but a heads up.

no fix included for the inaccessible disk drives yet so I am still postponing anniversary.

Does edge (or IE) yet have any improved mechanism for unloading tabs.?
IE never seems to release the memory if you have many tabs open, but have not used some tabs for a while.
For edge, at least on a tablet, when you select another tab sometimes seems a slight pause (reloading?), so maybe it has a different technique. Rendering and scrolling speed in edge always seems better than IE (even ff43) too.

I've been without a Windows 10 PC for a month or so now, and it's now upgraded to the Anniversary Update. How do I turn off Windows Defender- I turn off Real Time Protection but every time I boot up it turns itself back on.

Also I can no longer turn off the PC using the keyboard only (it used to be Windows Key, Up [opens power menu], Up, Up I think?). Just another irritating and entirely pointless change argh!

It was so nice using my Windows 7 back-up PC where everything was just where I wanted it to be, when I wanted it to be there :(

Just got around to doing the update, took a while to complete but once done I realised my touch pad had lost all its multi touch features again, reinstalling the driver and disabling automatic driver updates fixed it AGAIN.

Not sure why Microsoft insist on re-enabling this feature every major update, it breaks my laptop touch pad and the SLI on my desktop.

Apart from that it seems to be ok on my laptop, haven't got around to updating my desktop.

SO SO SO glad I forced my windows 10 install to NOT auto update (took silly amounts of hacking to make this happen........completely ridiculous)

Ironically iv had issues booting first time for years with my machine and got a texas instruments usb update the other day - now my machine is working flawlessly, yearsss iv been putting up with several attempted boots, years.......NO IDEA it was simply the USB driver!!!! WHAT - AAAAAGGGHHHHH

I was experiencing a lot of issues with this Anniversary Edition update when I allowed it to lazily update my existing system. However, after performing a fresh install I've found everything is back to working splendidly.

Anyone interested needs to download the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition ISO itself from here clicky but you need to use your Microsoft account to sign in and become an 'Insider' for free and then you'll be able to access the ISO.

That's literally the only way I've found to get your hands on the ISO legally and it took forever to find that.

This is wrong, just use the media creation tool from Microsoft's website, I used it last week and it downloaded the anniversary edition, it just needed a small update to get it on .222

Anybody know when I have a HD connected my PC takes forever to boot into windows!

The OS is on an SSD and if that's the only storage device present then Win10 boots in no time, if the HD (2TB WD Green) is plugged in it takes much much longer.

I'm stumped :(

It's not wrong; my first attempt was using the media creation tool to install Windows 10 fresh from that, after installing I confirmed that it was not the anniversary edition by using Win+R winver. It was version 15xx when it should have been 1607 (Build 14393.xxx).

If you use version 15xx and allow windows to upgrade to the anniversary edition then you're implementing the same lazy upgrade system that caused issues in the first place. Given the issues so many are experiencing with this update, I'd personally prefer to use the true Anniversary Edition ISO for a fresh install. However it is possible that upgrading a fresh install may not produce the same issues as upgrading a long standing install but given the minimal effort it's hardly worth taking the risk if you're already performing a fresh install.

I've seen a few websites confirm that the anniversary edition is being pushed out on the media creation tool but mine was 100% definitely not the anniversary edition (media creation tool was taken from MS that day).
